Ok Seiko fans, especially those of the 6117/6217 Wold Time models. The pic below is an LP album cover, Lawrence Welk, As Time Goes By. The cover art is a man and woman imposed as a reflection in a watch crystal..a Seiko World Time! Interesting thing is the gmt hand in these is not independent...it is synched to the hour. Not here though, must have been airbrushed or adjusted by a watchmaker for the picture. I find the whole thing rather odd, but very cool. A true novelty!

Ahh yes, the bubbles! For those not in the know, Lawrence Welk was (is?) an orchestra leader. He had a tv show where couples would dance while he conducted his orchestra. There would always be a bubble machine.
The funny thing is my fiancé's parents, in their 80s, watch reruns of the show still to this day!

Cool and good catch on the GMT hand error.

now THAT is weird - how odd!
I wonder why they did that - they'd have to do some serious work to make that happen. I wonder if Seiko sponsored the cover or if some advertising dude just picked it for them.
That's a hell of a product placement. Especially considering that the main Welk demographic probably didn't think of the Japanese favorably.
UPDATE: just found a copy on eBay for under ten bucks with free shipping. I'll frame it in the office.

I don't think it was Seiko...if you look closely, the watch isn't even new. Clearly some wear on the crystal bezel. Whole thing is just kooky!
Neat, but definitely kooky.

The angle the picture was taken at looks like the same diagonal positioning and same angle of the camera that a lot of the Seiko ads of the time were taken. Other than the fact that the hour and minute hand block out the Seiko logo (I guess so they wouldn't get sued or have to pay Seiko) and are not at the normal 10:10 position I would have said they just ripped off a Seiko add and Photoshopped it, I mean airbrushed it, as it was called back then .

You're all thinking like watch people. The red hand is pointing to a city. "We'll always have Rio, baby."
