This morning on TV I saw that there is a basket ball team composed by children of full Native extraction that just went to compete in Orlando. They are excellent and compete without shoes. They are poverty stricken and hardly speak Spanish. I am very proud of these kids... they do not take this as just a gym or fitness class, they are real go getters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3dojn5VmcQ

What is the proportion of the population that are "Native Speakers" as apposed to Spanish Speakers? Also, what is their spread across the nation? I mean, do they tend to occupy a usual place in society? Also, do they tend to live in one area? I have been to Mexico a few times. Diving in the Cenote's etc. Also went to Tijuana when I was stationed in Belize. MAD, MAD place my friend! But I don't think I ever met a "Native Mexican" so am very interested. What is the language called they speak? Very cool video, thanks for posting mate thunbsup.gif

Mexico ia a very different place to the US from the bio-social aspect... here we do not have to try to be politically correct... and I used the term Native Mexican to dennote a parallel to the "respectful term" Native American used in the USA.
When the Conquistadores came here, they had no damsels and had to find a garage where to park their Volkswagen, therefore the mixed races started... to Mexico came of course the Spanish who mixed with the Indians (correct term here) then we started getting other "whites" from other countries and blacks and also orientals. Therefore, if the US has been called --a melting pot--- because of the racial make up sometime in the past, in the case of Mexico we are a mixture of many races. This is mostly true in the majority of countries accross the Americas. Mendel would have a ball looking at what developed in terms of genetics.
Now, these children are special for certain reasons: - They come fron dire empoverished families - Their food intake is deficient - From their heredity traits they will not become tall basket ball players - They can barely speak Spanish
What I can tell you is that they belong to groups that do not want to mix with the white man. They like things the way they are and they are very good playing the game.
The tribes they belong to are mainly Zapotec... these tribes are residents of parts of Oaxaca and Veracruz. They are proud people and I tip my hat to them and to the teachers that are trying to bring them into what we can call the modern world.

We here in the UK have had a similar thing. With the Norman (French) invasion. Danes raiding the North of the country etc. Very few of us are not the result of an ethnic mix of races/genetics. I love the way sport can be used as a positive thing like in the video. As for the kids height. As you well know "It is not the size of the man in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the MAN!"

Right Norm, but it really warms my heart when underprivileged children can compete, and even sometimes win against those that do not have those defficiencies.
