Hi all. Been posting on here for a few weeks now but just realised I haven't posted here! <hangs head in shame>
I'm Nick from Ashford, Kent, but originally from the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands. Career railwayman. Not a watch guru (wouldn't dare take one apart) but have a few specimens to pick from in my 'collection', small though it is. Probably posted most of what I own in the various WRUW posts of late. I'm absolutely in awe of you guys who undertake servicing - Simon (a.k.a siralan) did my inherited 6139 Pulsations a few weeks back and I was amazed at the level of workmanship. Hats off to you guys. "For those about to clock - we salute you".
I'm mid 40s, into rock music in a big way after watching Lynyrd Skynyrd at Knebworth '76 on the telly, and an avid concert-goer. 'Leffemonster' handle as its my favourite beer (note to all you Aussies - get yourselves down to Dan Murphy's and pass by the VB, Coopers and Carlton Draught and get some decent Belgian beer down your necks!)
Watch-wise - Orient, Seiko, Citizen. Would love a '68 Seiko auto or mechanical as my birth-year watch (late as possible in '68 given my actual birthday is in December) but haven't found one yet within budget - need the dosh more important stuff! Currently contemplating having my grandfather's Smiths Deluxe worked on as per my post in the Non Japanese section. Means a lot to me that watch.
So, sorry for being late in introducing myself, and accept my apologies in advance if some of my posts ask some dumb questions. As I said, I'm not a watch guru but I'm happy that you've accepted me into your world.

Welcome Nick. Careful what you say to Aussies about our beer. Most of us wouldn't be seen dead drinking VB. Next you'll be accusing us of drinking Fosters - we send that rubbish overseas for the Poms to drink.

To be fair, I did crack (more than) a few Coopers Pale, Carlton Draught and Tooheys when I was there, as well as some very nice cider from the Kellybrook Winery in Wonga Park. Seriously though - compared to what we brew here and what they brew in Belgium (and even France...) your beer is pretty crap!

to another Belgian beer lover! You might recognize some of these labels ... I do indeed! Love Duvel as well, and all the Chimay variants are a tidy drop too. Gulden Draak at 10.5 is pretty hard-core stuff but I prefer Trappist Westvleteren 12, but that's hard to get hold of sometimes. And all taste better when consumed from the appropriate branded glass... Have you tried any of the lambic fruit beers? La Becasse framboise and Mort Subite Cassis are personal favourites.

We're coming along leffemonster. There's a thriving craft brew scene here. If you stick to the mainstream stuff (inc Carlton Draught, Tooheys etc) then you're getting beers that suited the working man 20 years ago. There's no need to drink that rubbish anymore - my little island with a population of about 500 000 has about 15 small breweries and probably a similar number of small cider producers - and Tasmanian whisky producers are winning praise all over the world too. This stuff isn't just restricted to cellar doors and beerfests either, a lot of it is available in most bottle shops. That said, my local has a good selection of British, European, US and Kiwi beers too. Never any excuse to drink the same beer twice. I hope you don't mind my getting passionate Nick, I enjoy a Leffe too.

Hey, we should all be passionate about our home-brewed beers Tritto! We have such a wide selection of ales and craft beers here in Blighty that the choice is sometimes overwhelming.
One thing I do envy you Aussies for is having stores like Dan Murphy's. When I grabbed a slab of Coopers from Woolworths in Boronia my mate who we were staying with said "Should have gone to Dan Murphy's mate!". I had no idea what he was talking about, I thought it was the name of a friend of his who had a shop! He told me where and what it was and in I went - WOW! What a store! I'd never seen such a choice of wines! And the cold store for the beers was a nice touch as well. A decent selection of European beers too, but all at seriously high prices compared to back here. Still, suppose they had travelled 10,000 miles...
