Lately I've been considering adding this watch to my collection. Easier said than done, it always seems as if once I decide I want to get a watch there are none to be had!
Doing a Google search I came up with Quartzimodo's excellent write-up of the Seiko "Submariner":
quartzimodo.com/seiko-skx031k-submariner-review/
Do any WS members have this watch? Opinions and photos, please? Thanks so much!

Looks like creation has them in stock. *Edit: sold out, sorry
I don't like the homeage-ness of it.

Doing a WS search I see that modding these watches is very popular with at least one mod I quite like (that gold mod) by member jcnix55.

Dan I have owned 3 of these before but they were all mods. Personally, I prefer them modified than original - something about the Submariner homage that didn't sit too well with me (not a big fan of the Sub). For want of something classic with some green and brown - My slice of 62MAS with sapphire and ceramic bezel insert - Pelagos envy - My favorite would be the 62MAS homage with the custom shaved crown guards and over-sized crown. It is a fitting tribute to a classic and just so errmm.... Seiko. All three have gone to fund other watches and projects but to be honest I wish I hadn't let go of the 62MAS mod. Btw, all three mods were not done by me. The 031 wears smaller than the 007 and is thinner too. It lacks the heft of the SKX but I would say that also makes it just a bit more comfortable to wear in my opinion. As the case is shaped like the Submariner, you can imagine it is very versatile - as you can see from the photos above, it looks great on anything from a dressed down NATO to an oyster bracelet.

I got a SKX031K for the wife as she prefers the larger size of gents watches.
It's a great watch on any wrist, I've worn it a few times myself. Especially since I got a solid link oyster bracelet for it. The original folded that Seiko fitted just seemed to cheapen the over all look and feel. Plus now with a solid link there is no more rattles.
The only other thing that bothered me when first purchacing the SKX031 was the lack of lume pip or full lume triangle on the bezel insert. But after a while you tend to forget about that.
If you manage to get hold of one, as new versions seem to be all gone, you won't be disapointed.

There are two things I do not like about the stock 7s26-0040, the hands and the black on white day/date. Otherwise it is a lovely watch, workhorse 7s, nicely sized and comfortable, easily modded. These two have been transformed from stock into watches I really like. One has the blue dial/reahaute from the SKX033, Marine Master handset (Seiko OEM not AM) and a white on black day/date. The other is a Tudor homage using parts from both Harold and Jake. Both have domed crystals and have had the lugs drilled. I think it is a real shame that Seiko discontinued this model.
