I think he mant to write 7002 instead of SKX007 - although the rest of the sentence is a bit ambiguous:
But he goes on about the 7002 PDF that is still available on Seiko's site.

...and mentions its ISO compliance which the 7002 couldn't have been - I don't think.
It's still up on Seiko's "Core" site.

I hope the writer is just mistaken. I noticed that some of these websites tend to be inaccurate when talking about Seiko.

The SKX-series has been around for nearly 20 years. It's about as long in the tooth as a Seiko model can get.
If they discontinued it and came out with an identical 4R36-powered version, it wouldn't break my heart.

That it's been discontinued is inaccurate. SEIKO don't do any advertising on this end of their range because they are more interested in selling spring drives and the $1000 up watches. So what's likely happened is the reporter has looked on the SEIKO website, not seen the 007 and concluded it's discontinued. Also, a little down the article, the reporter has it mixed up with the 7002, which is discontinued.

Isn't there a rumor at least once or twice a year that the SKX007 has been discontinued? I thought the Shogun had been long since discontinued hence their high prices in the secondary market but it seems that they have been "reissued" in the last year or 2. I don't think Seiko knows what to do next to find a replacement for the SKX as all of their recent issues seem to be parts shelf hodge podges or "let's put a shroud on everything". I think they are afraid to change their bread and butter diver for fear of driving off loyal customers. Now if one of their new hodge podge creations would seem to gain traction then I bet within 6 months you would see a new SKX007 replacement. They have the designs set aside for the new case and they can crank out a new dial paint job in a few days and they already have plenty of movements sitting on the shelf they just need an upturn before they go out on another limb and shoot themselves in the foot (especially if they decide to put an X on the dial of the new watch and raise the price by $400)

I read the article and could find no mention of the SKX007 being discontinued only some badly constructed prose.

"SKX007’s immediate ancestor is the Seiko 7002, which it closely resembles, and it shares with SKX007 a water resistance rating of 200 m. It was produced until 1996, when it was finally replaced by the model you see here. SKX007 is also no longer in production but can be found on the secondary market, which is unfortunate as it represents the entry price point into the world of Seiko diver’s watches – as a matter of fact, it probably represents the entry price point into the world of genuine, ISO-compliant mechanical diver’s watches, period."I read the article and could find no mention of the SKX007 being discontinued only some badly constructed prose.
