I have to call shenanigans on this one. The Gulf War was 1990-1991 and the SKX009 didn't come out until 1994 or 1995. I'm not saying he wasn't wearing a Seiko diver during the war but it wasn't an SKX.
I'm sure years later he purchased or was given an SKX009 and wore it and the watch that sold at auction was owned by him but was NOT the same watch that he was wearing in combat.

Due to comment sections normally being filled with all kinds of online yelling, I never read them. Thus I missed this crucial piece.

Well he did serve with NATO in West Berlin in 1960 as Aid-de-camp to Gen Charlie Johnson so he should have had a Nato Strap somewhere?!? thunbsup.gif

Very interesting!

By the way, on the wristshots in the article it seems to be a black bezel rather then a pepsi, or am I mistaken?

Just FYI ..... Since I know the back story on this and also knew the next current owner of Norman's watch.... It was gifted to another Military officer and a friend of Norman's in the early 90's. The watch has since gone up for auction last year and is in an undisclosed private collection. It was a 1987 Seiko 7548-700F ( North America market ) The good General purchased the watch directly from the base PX at Fort Benning Georgia in mid '88 Hope that brings some light to the topic They're just awesome watches and I highly recommend snagging one if the opportunity presents itself. Here's mine....'82 7548-700F purchased from an estate. The watch is all original and in unmolested condition. It literally sat in a drawer since the original battery died back in 1985 The case got a bath, new gaskets and of course a new battery. Still have the original GL831 strap which is beautiful but I prefer wearing it on a solid super jubilee. It gets wet all the time which is what it was intended to do Cheers Shawn
