Anybody out there own one of these? What are your impressions of it? Do you think it is a good value for 650ish USD?
Thank you.

I think Rob (scubarob99) & Bob (69ChevelleSS) have one, perhaps they will chime in.

I had one a while back. I would say that I liked the feel, solid and positive. The mechanical/physical construction and finish was really nice in my opinion.
What I personally did not like was the shape and size. The case being wide but the bezel being small in comparison. I have a large wrist and this fact along with the short lug to lug distance made it look weird on me.
Also I did not like the position of the crown, which being different from the usual SKX/6309 cases cause the date window to be in a weird position.
I had the first generation without bracelet so it was somewhat cheaper. I got it on trade and since I had a couple of Tsunami I thought to check it out. I much prefer the Tsunami, they are much better for me in terms of shape and overall look and dimension. The quality seems to be the same though, so purely a matter of taste.
Personally I can't see why such a watch would cost $650 when a Sumo can be bought for $450 or less if used, but again it's a personal opinion.
The watch surely can compete with other microbrands the like of Helson, Benarus, Halios, etc. so I guess with the bracelet it could compare easily in value.

I have a Typhoon T2 "Helo NH35" which is nearly the same look as the 6105, I bought it at the beginning of 2014 for $375 from Dagaz and that to me was a reasonable price. The new Typhoons have I guess a better movement inside but I'm not sure what else for the extra?
Personally for the price of $650 I'd prefer a genuine vintage 6105 but if you are looking for a brand new watch then it may be something to consider. Compared to my 6105's, I wear them a lot more than the Typhoon and only really wear it in situations where I will encounter some water and dont want one of my vintage watches to get any moisture damage.
Visually the 6105 has better dimensions than the Typhoon T2 as the bezel fills the watch case better on a 6105

can I get an honest good condition 6105 for 650ish? I would prefer that. Can a 6105 take the physical abuse that I would put a typhoon thru?

Are you sure it's not a Typhoonii w/NE15 for that price? There's a NE15 movement for sake got $450 right now.
I've owned both the older Typhoon2 and the newer Typhoon II. Have the NE15 movement in a tsunami and can say it's incredible, but all the Miyota/Seiko movements are great. One thing I noticed, although I've never seen explicit reference to refinement of the case between models, is it seemed the Tii case fit better and was more comfortable and curved to the wrist. I have nothing to point to to confirm that, but those are the kinds of subtle refinements I could see Jake making.
Also, get the bracelet! It's one of the best bracelets I've owned. Not #1, but top 3-4. Good luck with your decision.

As Tim noted, I do have the Typhoon II. Two words . . . . . AWESOME WATCH! I absolutely love mine! All the style ques of a 6105 plus a modern Seiko movement AND lume that glows all night. Keeps dead on time and is very comfortable to wear. Since the 6105s are more expensive when in excellent shape, I got one of these (actually, the wife bought it for me as my 25th Anniversary present) and am glad that I own it. I think we paid less than the price you quoted but I got it second hand but in great shape and complete with everything (AFAIK) that Dagaz sold it with. I've only worn it on the bracelet but just put the rubber strap on it (looks really great) and am looking forward to it coming up in the rotation again.

I had a 6105 for several years but did not bond with it and eventually sold it last year. Since I had Noah's Tsunami, I bought Jake's TyphoonII and have no regrets at all. I chose the Omega style hands and love it. In retrospect the prices for both are worth it. Both are better than the originals IMO. Jake's 6105 remake required genuine time and quality effort to make, deserving its price point. front of balcony plants by blingmeister, on Flickr

Big fan of Jakes, got the Tsunami classic and the T2...I didn't wait and got the early, cheap model on rubber. Wears great, runs with the slightest shake. Cons- I didn't like the positioning of the date window (solved that by getting a no date) didn't care for the rubber so put it on a mesh. lume is weak. for the money it scratched an itch. Rob

Anybody out there own one of these? What are your impressions of it? Do you think it is a good value for 650ish USD? Thank you. I just had one in here. They're OK. I personally think the styling is a little funky and modern, but hey it's a funky modern watch. Quality is fine. For me the issue was one of the uncanny valley, where the watch looking almost like what it was trying to look like, but not quite managing it. The whole package looked faintly wrong as a result. At least, to me it did.

At least, to me it did. I get where you are coming from. I had a T2 silver classic that looked great, nice dial and hands but could not love it so sold it. A few months later I bought a TII with the SAT dial (Tunerish) and ladder hands and to my mind it is more satisfactory because it looks like it is a tool watch in its own right rather than a fancy diver like some of the other versions do. I like the look of the SAT dial, its visible and you could really use it diving although I think the general look is not so popular because they seem to shift slowly. Unfortunately I cant compare the TII to a T2 apart from the TII bezel is firmer, I think the case may be subtly revised from memory. I could not get on with the MM style strap that the T2 came on so the bracelet of the TII is a welcome improvement, the quality is up there and unlike Seiko Jake has adorned it with a sensible deployment clasp that does its job well without being bulky. The Typhoon is not a substitute for a 6105 but a watch in its own right but buying a Typhoon will give you a new watch which is superior in many ways. Better movement (new and not worn out)with hacking and handwinding, decent triple seal crown, drilled lugs, double domed crystal.

Never had one in my hands but after exhaustive online examination of the Typhoon and Eddie Platt's Smiths branded interpretation I can only be thankful that I have a very good 6105-8110. Neither of these attempts really does it for me although kudos to both shops for doing it. I wish Jake would put out a version of that bracelet with 19mm 6105-811x compatible end links, that would be the bee's knees. I am however still completely in love with the CAV-date I bought as a 50th bday present to myself two years ago. I think a MKII would have had slightly more perfection in fit/finish but at 1/3rd the price Jake hit it out of the park.
