Hi Everybody, Glad to join up after following the site for years. I'm a 34 year old Canuck living just outside Toronto, Canada. I work in the city as a Superintendent for Toronto Paramedic Services. I've been married for 5 years and have a little 2 year old boy and an 11 month old girl. In addition to enjoying watches as a hobby, I enjoy hockey -- leafs fan , playing guitar and cottaging. Here is a few photos of my very very humble Seiko collection as it stands today. Seiko Tuna SBBN015 Seiko Samurai SNM021K1 I wear my watches regularly. I have never had the desire to be a collector and due to this my watches show the characteristics of regular use. Especially Seiko's, built with quality and attention to detail in mind, they're made to be used and enjoyed. Because of this I have only ever planned to keep my collection small. In addition to the two watches you see above I only have two more to add. 1 vintage Seiko: 6139-6002 1 grand Seiko: to be determined ... This will, to me round out my collection completely. A vintage seiko, modern seiko, iconic seiko, and seiko's highest offering in the grand (not counting Credor!) I have always had a thing for the 6139's and look forward to the hunt of finding the absolute best example I can -- If anybody has a lead I'm open ears 8). I am also open to the Grand Seiko being of the 'vintage' variety when the day comes to splurge. I typically purchase a watch during big life moments to make the occasion. Kids being born, wedding day, large job promotion etc... so plan on doing the same with the next two purchases. This to me adds another element and makes the acquisition that much sweeter. Anyways, I apologize for the long winded introduction. I enjoy the site and hope to contribute as I continue learning much about this wonderful watch brand we all enjoy so much. Sincerely, Mike (ruuskystar)

Welcome Mike. GREAT start to your collection. Two major icons! Love the Samurai!
I wear all mine too but my plans to keep the collection small went by the wayside when I saw all the cool watches out there!
Enjoy your time here! Bob

to Wrist Sushi from another Canuck on the wet coast. Keep your collection small; but it's going to be tough with all the enablers here

Welcome Mike. Man, you didn't wait long before going back for seconds! :-) Looks like you have two very nice watches there and I'll be stunned if you can keep it to 4. Whatever you do don't read the WRUW threads - there will be too many tempting options - is it even possible to be a Seiko fan without hankering for a 6309?

Welcome! I don't consider myself a collector either - though at the last count I think I had 18 watches... (only 4 Seikos though)

You sir make a strong case re: the 6309 Thanks for the warm welcome gents. From what I gather, I suppose joining up today is most of all going to be a test of self discipline keeping the collection to 4. I'll take some good advice and avoid the WRUW threads ... For now. Have a good night all.

I'm at 19 (I think) and it is a challenge I've struggled with. Admittedly a serial flipper, I've tried to "consolidate", "trim", "reduce the stable", etc., and they seem to come in more than they go out. One reason is I have a core vintage collection that would be difficult to replace, especially with vintage Seikos steadily or not so steadily creeping or shooting up. My overarching criteria is I don't want to be sitting in a meeting next to guy with same watch. Currently have 5 tool watches (all out of production or limited editions or both, which is a criteria for me. I prefer watches you can't pop on a site and lay down credit card and order and WILL not buy anything but used on watch forum as I'm not into retail ADs). one Rolex (given to me by wife 22 yrs ago (and even it is custom order dial I've never seen in the wild on a Thunderbird model that's not often seen - certainly not as ubiquitous as datejust or sub), and the rest vintage. And yes, I've tried different methodologies to get wrist time for them like changing mid-day (that's actually sorta enjoyable). And yes, I've stood over the watch cases undecided with my WIFE sitting in the car steaming, or done a quick run back in the house to change last minute. Sounds crazy I know and it's felt crazy at times.
I stopped buying a couple weeks ago to purely enjoy the collection I have. I finally reconciled owning so many by fully internalizing the reason I have so many is 1) because I enjoy the,, and 2) IT IS A COLLECTION, which by definition means I collect! It was a poignant and soothing moment for me because I no longer feel guilty, or greedy, and I'm free to enjoy. I sometimes wear my vintage pieces around the house (I work from home 50% and office 50%), so as to not expose them quite as much to the bumps and bruises to not as easily replaced crystals, etc. I post a lot of WRUW to share them with others, some of which are as rare as hen's teeth.
So for the first time I'm at ease with my little watch collecting soul. I'm a collector so I collect. That's kinda the whole idea right? Some have small collections and some large, each to his own. Enjoy your collection and never look back watch Bros., WIS, small or large, guilt-free (unless you're buying IWCs and Sea Dwellers and baby has no shoes. Buy more watch cases if needed as the best one I've found is either. $15 for 8-piece travel case or Casebud clamshell for $20 on Amazon for your stuff that won't lay flat. Best $20 you can spend.
Sorry for the epistle, but if it save one guilt-driven collector, with operative word being collector, it's worth it.

Much respect brother. Enjoy your collection and wear it in good health. I suppose for me the question always is: when is enough? The truth is there is no one answer to that question. To each their own. If one, like you say has the funds to keep active in the horological collection hobby and the baby still has shoes ... then by all means more power to you. My initial thought to keep my collection to a reasonable 4 time pieces, all at a varying price point and quality would cover any and all life situations. The focus on wearability. All 4 would get decent wrist time and all 4 could be maintained and serviced within financial means. I think where collections grow higher in number is when one gets into vintage time pieces. There's just so many amazing and beautiful Seiko's from the 60's - 70's that would add dimension to anyone's collection. Just looking around at some of the vintage collections guys on the site here have, I suppose I could stretch my number from 4 to 5! As always, enjoy the day gents.
