It all started when I was but a wee lad of sixteen. My first car (which I bought myself) was a 1977 Honda Civic. I spent hours tinkering with the thing, fixing this, fixing that. As I saved my money I upgraded through many Hondas. My draw to these Japanese cars was the simple, efficient, inexpective style and engineering.
Fast forward a couple of decades and I begin to think about watches. Just as I do with most new interests I turn to the web. In short order I become discouraged with what I find, gobs and gobs of high end Swiss horological nonsense.
Then I find Seiko with the same simple, efficient, inexpective style and engineering coupled to a community that enjoys tinkering "under the hood". I got my first Seiko this Christmas (7S36-03J0)! The more I see the more I want to own and am genuinely excited about the journey ahead.

Welcome to the madness Clayton! About 4 years ago I just wanted a reliable diver in case my Aqualand needed something more than a battery change, smitten with Japanese design I stuck around and let the hobby reel me in hook, line and sinker. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome! Glad you joined in on the fun.
I'm an old American Muscle car kinda guy (born in '61) but I bought a used Accord a few years back. I absolutely love the car!

You've come to the right place and you are going to find a wealth of info here on what must be your favourite Japanese watches. You will find some folks here with the 7S36-03J0. What colour dial did you get?

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I didn't want to spend a whole lot on my first mechanical watch, which I had my mind set on. My budget basically had me restricted to Seiko, Orient, and Japanese powered microbrands. The styling of and enthusiasm for Seiko sucked me in. I can't believe the number of hours I've already spent soaking everything up and building a wish list. Oh yeah, I went with a black dial, thought it would be the most universal since I have a collection of 1.

Welcome Clayton,
Having worked on a few Swiss watches and many hundreds of Japanese I can agree the Japs have a different approach to their movement design, resulting in economic, efficient and clever units that I prefer to work on. Same with their cars and bikes.
