Hi all. Long time reader......
Started my interest in Seiko divers with a SKJ Kinetic Sports 200 I bought in Singapore about 1997 and used it on over 100 dives. Loved it to bits, literally and when the jubilee end links broke and then the capacitor failed, I put it in the back of a draw and got a g shock! Several years later and I discovered my old Seiko could be resurrected for a few quid and a whole world of aftermarket straps were available. It was reborn.
However, in my searches for a strap, I kept coming across something called the 6309 and 6105. These looked amazing, were automatics and vintage. The 6105 at the time were a little pricey (I smile now at my naivety with current prices !) but I managed to hook a late 6309 Suwa which I believe to be all original. A service and pressure test and we were good to go.
If only it had stopped there......
Later I then came across the Tunas. WOW. Must have one. Saved up and got me a SBBN015 new. Even the massive import duty didn't dampen my love. A superb looking watch with a great bracelet. I soon had it on an Iso and actually use this watch as a tough tool watch. I have a small holding here in rural France and this is my daily wearer. It looks better bashed up a bit I think and I have a sapphire crystal replacement which will go on with the battery change in 2 years time.......
But all the time I felt the pull of the dark side...... Early last year I found a SBBN013 in the UK from a serial watch flipper on another forum. A deal was done, and I have what I consider the ultimate in bad boy tool watches. As a consequence, I wear it only in the evening or going out! Its that tough! On Iso DLC it looks great and I am really fond of this watch. I wont part with any of them, but I may be buried with the Darth...... accurate time for 5 years......
Has it stopped. For the moment, yes. I still dream of finding a 6105 or vintage Tuna for a steal one day........ And some of those KS and GS look fantastic. But I feel I have already pushed the boundaries with my slightly bemused wife.
Anyway, I don't have much to contribute, so many great experts here, other than a personal view on the watches I own or would like to own. But I will continue to visit this friendly site and dream....... and keep up the good work!
