Popped along to the national motorcycle museum earlier this morning and found this one, didn't really want to spend a lot this morning but couldn't help myself! Basically it's pretty close to mint condition, the brushing is superb, if it's been redone then the guy who did it is a genius. The polished bits have very minor swirlies but no scratches. Dial, hands and bezel insert are all good too, the lume is dead but not discoloured. It's kept time so far and the chrono resets sweetly to zero. Kanji day wheel is a bonus. So, on the basis of it's almost too good to be true, is it all original? What do the experts think?
I haggled down from £300 and paid £250 for it.

Good looking watch!
As to originality, I noticed the bracelet is the "fishbone" style typically seen on the "Chronograph Automatic" version. The Speed-Timers have a folded link bracelet in a "President" style.
The bracelet also seems to be made of two different parts. One half is marked "Z040S", which is correct for a Bullhead. The other half, however, is marked "Z050S", which is the bracelet used on the 6139-710x "Helmet" chrono.
I can't make out any caseback numbers (other than the SN), but the dial and hands, which are unlumed, would be correct for a 1974-1975 Speed-Timer Bullhead. Why Seiko took the lume off of them is anyone's guess.
Looks like it has had some nice casework done.
She is a beauty! yes1.gif

Really don't know much about these but that's a superb looking example Andy. Well done, seems a good price too & with the added bonus of being able to handle it in the flesh.
I've been meaning to go to that fair for ages but keep forgetting about it. Maybe you could remind us about the next one on the forum ?

Cobra - great spot on the bracelet! Hadn't noticed it was 2 different ones at all. I think you're right that it's had casework done, looking at the caseback and the fact that the model code etc has worn off it seems a bit unlikely that the front has survived so well when the caseback is so worn. Damn fine job though, whoever did it!
Cartshed - it was a late decision on my part to go today, next dates are as follows
Birmingham - 3/11/13, 19/1/14, 16/3/14,18/5/14
Uxbridge - 8/9/13, 15/12/13 - no dates set for 2014 yet
Will try and remember to post a week or so before though

It is in great condition, indeed, Andy. I had been looking for this very piece, brown, for two years after selling mine! Finally I found one and grabbed it immediately.
Wear it in good health . . .

Absolutely great looking watch! For that price, I think you got a nice deal. If it were me, I'd wear it and enjoy it . . . a lot!
Congrats and wear it in good health!
