This was my father's watch... He purchased it in Singapore around 1967 or 1968. This model is identical to the Kontiki and has the same Eterna 1424UD movement. I've seen many of the Kontiki models on ePrey but never this plain version. This is probably the finest Swiss watch I own. The current ETA 2824-2 which this Eterna eventually became; doesn't hold a candle to the fit and finish of the 1424 calibre.

Nice, simple watch. Sometimes we forget "Less can be more" family connection is of course a massive bonus. Was your dad working in Singapore in the '60's then Pete?

Yes; my father went to Singapore in 1960 to work at the Singapore Teacher Training College. I was on contract with the Canadian External Aid office. He was a biology teacher. He and my mother spent a total of 7 years there; Singapore kept requesting him to come back. I was just a teen at the time but got to live there for three years until I graduated high school and came back to Canada for higher education. Those three years were probably the most fun and educational years any teen could have had chinathumbsup.gif

That is a fantastic watch, and a great keepsake. I love simple, and that one really hits home with me.

I attended the Singapore American School the last year I was there(went to local schools before that) and I get the SAS reunion magazine and invite every year. Haven't managed to make on yet but you never know. We made lots of friends among the Singaporeans and many still stay in touch to this day. Occasionally if they are passing through; we get together for a dinner and rehash old times a063
