Hey guys been lurking for some time figured I'd introduce myself.
I've been into mechanical's before they became cool again. Most of my work and everyday watches have been Seiko's 5's going back to the early to mid 90's. These babies take a licking and keep on ticking. Wait that's the Timex I wore before finding Seiko. I stopped wearing a Seiko for a time nearly 5 years ago, when my daughter and wife bought me a Lum-Tec. I thought some of my newer 5's had gotten big, I looked like Flavor Flav wearing that bad boy.
Anyway the other day I got the bug to monkey around with some of my old watches. Back in the early to Mid 90's I started a correspondence course on watch repair. Between life; with work and family; and lack of room; and every other excuse, after several lessons I box up the stuff and moved it into the basement. Heck at that time the internet was in its infancy and the only watch forum at the time was "time Zone" imagine my surprised when I started googling...Oh and Youtube the tutorials! So I dug out that old five removed the logo that was floating around and am now here!
So I figured I'd start buying some cheap Seiko's off eBay and it turns out that even though they were "cheap" I feel in love with them and am nervous to start playing with them. They need some work (I'll post pics one day) So I have found some others that aren't as 'pretty' that actually cost a bit more that I'll be practicing on. (actually as I was typing this I lost track of time and lost out on a twin to one over at the goodwill auctions)
The watches range from older 1980's with the 6309 movement, which I read many are modding into diver watches, mine is housed in a "dressy 8840, to current production 4r36. Most of the parts watches I've been buying up are the 7009 movement and 6309 if I can find them. The one 7009 I fell in love with will not advance the day with the setting stem. It advances fine with the time being adjusted???
What I have in Seiko's in no particular order.
4R36-01E0
7S26-00D0 (SNK8?? bought a new crystal and "mod" dial for it)
7009-8129 this has a quick set date? where you can advance that day by pushing the crown in.
7009-8920
6309-8840 (looking for another w/t white dial code 820N r)
7S26-3120 (my first 5)
7S36-03J0 (needs a new crystal, took a bounce opps)
7S26-0020 (Diver with Pepsi Dial I bought for scuba diving in Hawaii)
7A28-7039 (My first Seiko, sort of, a x-mas present in '84 and only Seiko Quartz)
Hope to see you all around!
