I've posted about this before, but the last time I sent my Skyhawk AT JY000053E to Citizen for a repair and service, it came back with a ton of dust under the crystal. Instead of sending it back to them, I thought I'd just take pop it open and clean it up myself, like I do for most of my other watches. I was wondering what tool I should use to open up the case back. Would a simple snap-back case opener tool suffice? Or would I need something like a proprietary Citizen opener or some other specialized tool? Thanks in advance. Here's a picture of the watch for reference:

A pic of the back might help Had to Google it and it looks like snap back. There seems to be a notch/depression in the case at the 12 position.

A pic of the back might help Had to Google it and it looks like snap back. There seems to be a notch/depression in the case at the 12 position. Thank you very much for the help! Funny that I missed the 12 o'clock notch. The case back came off easily with a gentle twist of the knife. One thing strikes me odd, though. When I had sent it in for a service, I was charged for new gaskets and depth testing. After popping off the case back, it appears to me that there is no case back gasket! In the picture, there's only the movement holder; I can't find any sign of the case back seals! Am I missing something here? This is a 200m rated watch, it doesn't make sense that there wouldn't be seals.

Looks like they forgot to fit one. Normally gaskets are on the snapback itself.

Well, that's the last time I'll ever use an "authorized" service center. I had a similar experience when I had sent my Monster to Seiko. It came back full of dust and with the hands fixed incorrectly. Best that I either do any repairs myself or ask some of the great watchmakers here in the future.

Strange I have used Citizen for both under guarantee repairs and also paid for repairs. I have found the customer service and work carried out to be excellent. I even got a postage refund for the under guarantee work.

A few years ago, before I had watch tools, I sent out my aqualand for a battery change (because the caseback said so) Some rookie trainee (or maybe it was a Monday) scratched up the caseback really badly, even slipped and gouged the pusher. Excuses- Titanium, factory closed (new watch, first change) blah blah blah. At that point, I knew even I could do better.

Hi. I know that this was posted a while back. was anybody able to figure out how to close this case back? I have the same watch, Citizen Eco-Drive Titanium Skyhawk Atomic Mens Watch JY0010-50E. I sent it back to the factory, they wanted a lot of money just to replace the movement, and a list of repairs that I did not ask for. I ended up replacing the capacitor for under $20, but I can't seem to reseal it. The plastic seal that's in the case back appears to be made out of nylon, maybe even Hytrel, the Dupont material that's used for the Rolex crown seals. Once the seal is the form, it does not seem to work any longer. My goal is to buy another seal which attending shipment, and bring it to a jewelry store or watch store to have them put it in. What are your thoughts? I've posted about this before, but the last time I sent my Skyhawk AT JY000053E to Citizen for a repair and service, it came back with a ton of dust under the crystal. Aloha , I have these .... Blue Angel ones and Sky Hawks but they all need gasket that were as usual Gaskets most people use. It should have a ..Thin One to fit on the Case Back I would say. I never had seen any .... Nylon Ones in any watch yet. They are always with gaskets from what I have noticed and even on watch I got that had Industrial Sealant the forms itself on it. Louis This Parts Head I have here has ..... The Nylon Seal in it also. But I have always use ...... Extra Sealant to be sure in all of my Watch's. This one needs a ..... New Movement for it yet.

Aloha Sir, That ...Nylon Ring slips into the case then place the movement into it. Should be simple install. I always use a ..... Thin Layer of Silicon to seal the Case Back as a extra precaution. But make sure it is not smearing into the movement Louis
