Make sure the battery is 1.55V or the movement will not keep good time. The sweep hand on these moves at 300hz or 360hz ie very smoothly. With that many steps per second, you should only see a smooth sweep similar to the GS Nice model; well worth restoring

Hey Small, that's a very nice looking Accutron. There are one or two good resources out there. Just google Accutron service and you'll find them. So, most (if not all models?) of these are designed with a low voltage battery in mind (was it 1.2v?). Some will run happily on a modern battery, but with others it causes problems with running too fast. They can apparently be 're-indexed' to successfully run on a higher voltage battery. Often the coil system is what goes (some very fine exposed wires either fail or get damaged when the watch is opened). Replacement coils are very hard to get and I don't think they can be repaired. If it runs then that's fine, but if it doesn't then you may need to send it off to a specialist. My local watch guy has a genuine early Spaceview Accutron in his cabinet that I've been eyeing off, but it's non-running and he doesn't want to work on it - says they're a bugger to work on. He also has a 2182 (day-date) in his cabinet running fine on a modern battery.

Thanks guys I did have my OM1 35mm cameras converted from IIRC 1.3v "mercury" style to a more common 1.5v??? Quick search between posts. "This is a very popular 1.5V Silver Oxide replacement to the original 1.35V Mercury 343 battery used in all Accutron 218 Series models. The slightly higher voltage of this replacement cell has been well tolerated in 218 models causing no real variance in timekeeping accuracy." So he recommends Energizer 344/350 Battery's So I may be in luck. I'll grab a cheapy and see if it ticks. Pretty bold dial and hands, not a dress watch but a good everyday if it runs. If ti doesn't one less Accutron in the world. Maybe I could cram a 11dp in there?

Well the 218x models tend to sell for less than the earlier 214s and may not be as fragile. I looked a while ago and sometimes running dress models can be had for not much so even if it doesn't go, I'd keep it as is and look out for a donor.

How'd you go with the rest of your job lot? Mixed bag...Turns out every one of the Mechs tick! Most are keeping great time on the desk over the past few days. The 6139-6010 was a bit of a let down, while it keeps great time, the Chrono functions not working and I don't trust myself with stripping it myself. Its a September of '69 build so I think I'll just let it go...For parts or repair over on the Bay. Not sure what I should ask for it. Prices seem to be all over. The Russian Chrono seems to work fine but has an Accutron bracelet. By fine I wound it tight and its keeping time and the stop watch functions no idea to accuracy. Odd the crown "unwinds" a few tuns after I release it. I don't care for the small seconds at 9 so I have the stop watch running. I guess it being a Chrono you really don't even need a second hand...Over all I don't think I stole this one. Now just need to decide what to keep and what to part with... One of the Hamilton's isn't jeweled but still looks like a nice Quartz movement. I hope the LED will fire up with just s fresh battery... The most interesting of the lot is a a little no-name (Pencron labeled for JC Penny Co. now nearly out of business.) 25 jewel Auto day date at six with a hefty stainless rectangular case. Its got a goofy screw back in that its got the six slots like a normal back but you only need to urn it 90° I thought the threads were jazzed. I would get it to break loose after 1/4 turn then it would get tight, I spun it round a few times before I caught on. D/D change together at 12...too bad it didn't come with a bracelet... Other small item that I'll be posting questions about will be the Natrix Chrono. I think the movement, Made in France made marked in the Shield in L so maybe Landeron 149? On of the pushers is gone...But wound tight over night hasn't lost any time. Dials faded but the movement should have some value???If not that might be what I cut my teeth on...
