Thought it about time to update the work spaces, the old thread has so many missing photos it's not worth reprising, and there are many new members to showcase their setups. So to get it started: This is where the dirty work gets done! Need less to say not the sort of place you work on watches, so this is my "clean" workspace, made a few alterations since I last posted, made a fixed post to support the Microscope and the Camera that clears a lot of bench space.

You've got a proper shed! And the "clean" workplace looks very nice, too! Sadly, I only have a part-time desk space for my watch work. Maybe I'll get around to take a picture later.

Close that door before the poisonous snakes and spiders get in! Nice work spaces! As a condo-dweller, best I can do is clear off the desk when I feel like tinkering with watches. Tinkering with anything larger than watches is out of the question, unfortunately.

In its typical state. Need some better organization for tweezers and such, but I can find everything unless it pings too far.

Here is my movement service area: I have another area for case work, timing, observation under a stereo microscope, and polishing. Some day I'll get some photos........

My current working area. Most of my stuff is in a spare room upstairs and gets brought down each night when I'm tinkering to the dining room table and taken back up when I've finished. What you see is what I am daring to leave down here after clearing up tonight! I do dream of a nice area like those above (wow, look at yours GuyJ !) but that's in the future at some point.

I can only dream of the sort of spaces some of you guys are working with. I have a tiny little table in the bedroom about 40cm square. I sit on the floor and work at it while my kids are having rest time on the weekend. When something goes ping I have to search the carpet - oh, and the light is too bad to work at night. I have to get my youngest out of the adjoining 'nursery' room if I'm ever to have any sort of desk to work at 😢

[/quote] The door has to be open so they can get out Know what you mean, used to work on the kitchen table, and it was a pain carting all the gear out and having to pack it away again, so I decided to increase my desk space to accommodate the watch works. Like every thing else it starts off simple then grows out of all proportion, I also have a large 5 drawer cabinet full of tools and equipment, spare parts and other junk as well as 2 small 5 drawer units on the other side of the room. It is interesting to see others work areas, you can get some good ideas from their setups as well as drool over the gear they have that you don't.

Bloody hell, I can only dream of anywhere like you guys have to work in! Living in a late Victorian terrace and with far too much non-watch related stuff, I struggle with space, power sockets and, crucially, light. Most of my failures happen on the window sill in our back bedroom, with me down on my knees...
One day I'll get round to actually sorting the house out and using the available space properly. Heck, this thread might even give me the impetus to start!

So longbike has a watchmaker cat too! Here's ours, at the old worktable in the dining room. I have a new work area now, pictures to come.

You know, and I fear I'll jinx it by saying anything, but we have 4 hairy lodgers and none have every ventured onto my work table. In fact only one ever even spends any time in that room.

Hah...well here is my 'trouble', then! Although not living with me at the moment (she remains where my girlfriend is for now) she has visited but the door for that room is kept shut! (the cat, that is, gf really doesn't care about going in there...)

Pusskins, the cat in my avatar likes to help, sit on the desk and watch, a great help as a domestic long hair who sheds - its like trying to repair watches in a barbers shop.
Just as well we love them!

Just as well we love them! I feel your pain. Up until yesterday I had two dogs who both moulted everywhere. Where the hair gets is staggering! Sadly one of them reached the end of the line yesterday, but 14 1/2 not bad for a Labrador.

When I had to make the call on the best thing for my 16yo Puss earlier in the year it was bloody hard.

Sorry to hear that, too, Pip. I was never really a cat person, but funny how they start finding their way in (at least to my cold hearted emotions!). Always wanted a dog, though. But I fear it may be just a bit too much to take on right now.
