I'm always on the lookout for a bargain, but sometimes you have to pull out the stops and pay a little more than the going rate to get a top-notch example. I've been wanting to get a vintage Accutron into my collection for a while now and I was tossing up something nice offered to me by a member here (sorry small) when something really cool popped up on a Facebook forum I'm a member of. The seller had done all the right things - detailed description, a great photograph etc - I was the first in line and got down to the business of asking a few questions and getting some more pics. It arrived on Friday and I was more than pleased! It's in fantastic condition and humming away nicely (supposedly serviced late last year). While I've long fancied an Accutron, so many are a bit small and a bit bland. Not this one. At 40mm with an inky black dial and bright red highlights, it's very striking. NO serial dates it to 1970. It's a bugger to capture the dial without reflections and the high domed crystal has a lot to do with that. Nice original president style bracelet and signed clasp, along with a coin edged bezel and signed crown. And the all important wrist shot. What's also satisfying is flipping two watches I wasn't loving (Alpinist and Bulova Accutron II Moonview) for a modest profit to fund it. My PP account remains in credit 😃 Thanks for letting me show it off.

Nice catch, Tristan! These little hummers are pretty cool. I cleaned a Spaceview for my brother-in-law a year ago - it was his late father's watch, and was worn daily... :puke:
The battery I put in (- side up, with a little plastic spacer) didn't last too long, so I guess he should have it serviced sometime soon... But it's humming away nicely as long as the battery lasts.

That's a beauty Tristan (apart from the cyclops, but that's just a pet hate of mine). I've found that my Accutron is a real battery gobbler, and with the sometimes quite long gap in fitting it in to my rotation that can be a problem. Pulling out the crown does seem to extend the life , but doesn't stop the hum.

Thanks all. I showed it to my better half this morning, since she'd asked what what I had been selling the others to fund, and her response ... meh, I don't hate it. What makes it special? Which I struggled to articulate - it's just awesome didn't cut it. Then of course she asked what I paid for it (that'll teach me to show off anything new) and followed up 10 minutes later with 'since you're flush with cash, Thomas' swimming lessons need paying for'... Oops. Damn it. Should have kept quiet 😳
