Why not conjecture a 7019-6000 while we are all playing the 'guess what the blurry picture from decades ago shows?" OMG so much identical models :/

I was considering that, but no meatball on the seconds hand. Rob You are correct! I will probably go with 6119-6023.

Hello all, I see this is topic for Seiko 6119. I am looking to identify watch that my Dad had. I know it was Seiko 5 sports automatic, he bought it in the early 1970's. Watch has one button/crown, inner bezel, day-date and second hand is red color with small circle at the top. It seems it is one of the 6119. My problem is that 6119-6020, 6119-6023 and 6319-6000 looks identical. Picture below is the best I could find from family albums. picand one more picAny help would be much appreciated. Thank you. First off Welcome to Wristsushi ! I have linked in the photos so we can all see your Dad's watch better. Yes the 6119-6020, 6119-6023 and 6319-6000 all look identical for the purpose of trying to tell from photos like these. The 6119-6020 has a larger 6 mm crown, the 6119-6023 has a 4.5 mm crown. Can we spot the extra 1.5 millimeters in these photos? Maybe that's the bigger 6 mm but really that's a hard call to make. If you had a photo of the case back, even blurry where you can't read the numbers, they are different styles but how could you have such a photo I know that's a longshot. The 6319-6000 (I had one before I went all in with the 6119-6023's) is essentially the same watch case in appearance. It too had the 4.5 mm crown. It was updated with the newer (more modern in the 1970's anyway!) 6319 movement which was a step above the 6309 movement indicating it was to be a more robust watch by design. Anyway no way to tell from these photos but if it helps numbers made I see way more 6119-6020/-6023s for sale than 6319-6000, but none are rare.
And finally as Cobrajet says, it could be a 6106-6057 !
Awesome HiBeat, your knowledge is very useful. Thank you for the help and sorry for the blurry pics

Here are three of mine, the three generations. From left to right: a 6319-6000 from June ‘77, a 6106-6057 from July ‘70 and a 6119-6023 from Jan ‘72. They’re great watches, a good size and great case shape... Closeups, in order of age: 6106-6057 6119-6023 6319-6000 Oh, and here’s my blue 6119-6023 from March ‘71

Awesome HiBeat, your knowledge is very useful. Thank you for the help and sorry for the blurry pics To narrow it down slightly, it cannot be a 6106-6057 as it did not have the blue sports text (check out my post above) and you can clearly see that your Dad’s watch has a splash of blue... Alex

I finally got mine 6119-6023. When I received it, it had 70+ seconds per day, couple of weeks ago I went to official Seiko service and now it is around 10+ seconds per day. In the work specification they wrote, watch is running good. Now my question is if 10 to 11+ seconds per day is really good, or should I go back to Seiko service to make a complaint and try to adjust better timekeeping?
