Make sure you have the proper lift angle set, or you can get super low or super high TG readings. That said, that's outstanding !

For sure. Moving from 52 to 54.5 degrees can fool you by +20 degrees.

The little 2205 has pretty good amplitude Even a 6349 can attain higher amplitude

Generally after a rebuild, 225-240ish is pretty good. After a few months running they usually settle in the high 240's and can go as high as 270's...in most cases.
There's a few rogues (I did a 6138 that settled at 285 recently).
The older movements, 66, 7625 etc should settle around 280ish.
7S26, anything over 250 is good. 6119, 6138, 6139, 6106, 6105, Anything over 225 is good (the large balance wheel seems to slow the swing a little) 6309 etc, anything over 245 is good
The SEIKO service sheets mention minimum amplitude being 180, which is way too low.
Amplitude is relative.
e.g. some ROLEX movements don't have amplitudes above 250ish, but they were designed that way. I know of ROLEX specialists that deliberately reduce the amplitude of some of the older movements so the barrel doesn't shred top plates.
Probably with some of the freak SEIKO movements, someone has put in a mainspring which is a bit stronger = higher amplitude.
I think the old guys saying they are garbage with low amplitudes were trying to talk the customer out of a repair.

Another member of the +300 club. 8L35 movement. I imagine if I tried to regulate it could be zero spd but I am not taking off the back during the warranty ! So 0.1 ms beat error as shipped.

If you're getting +8spd (or better) on the wrist, I wouldn't think it worth the trouble. Frankly, given my heavy handedness, I'd be afraid of changing it far too much in one direction or the other and not being able to get it back to +8spd.

It's simply not true. Most issues I find with older Seiko watches are down to wear and incorrect service methods. A watch is a scientific instrument yet we don't get them serviced until they play up. It's like buying a car and then waiting until it breaks down before getting the first service.
The main issues as I see it are:
1) Wear.
2) Magnetism.
3) Incorrect servicing
and finally people being parrots and just repeating something someone else said. That plays a big part along with the watch snobbery you see. A lot of bs out there on the internet.
Be lucky,
T
