A Review of The Seiko Prospex Solar Watch SSC632 With Movement Number: V192-OABO.
General Description.
This is a black dialed, six hand watch with three sub dials. The case is 44.5 mm wide. There are two pusher buttons, one at 2 o’clock and one at the 4 o’clock position. Both button caps are a gold tone with a pattern stamped into the top of the cap. The crown is at the three o’clock position and has a coin edge pattern around the circumference. Seated against the case it is in the normal position. Pull out one click to set the date, and two clicks to set the time. The bezel is also gold toned with a coin edge. The bezel also functions as a slide rule and flight computer. This watch comes on a brown croc patterned leather strap that I find comfortable.
The Dial.
The main dial is black with the SEIKO brand, in gold lettering, directly under the 12 o’clock marker. Below the brand name is the Prospex logo and below the Prospex logo is the word SOLAR. The hour markers come in four different shapes. The 12 o’clock marker appears as a triangle with what I would describe as a rectangle top. The 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, and 11 makers all have a long narrow rectangle shape. The 3, 6, and 9 markers have shorter, wider rectangle shape than the afore mentioned markers. The 8 o’clock marker appears to be the same width as the 1, 2, etc. markers but do to the position of the power reserve indicator it is shorter. All the markers have a gold outline and are luminous. This is an easy dial for my old eyes to read.
The Hands.
The hour and minute hands have a gold out line. and are luminous. The stopwatch hand is always fixed at the 12 0’clock position, when not in use and it is not luminous. The 24-hour hand and the seconds hand are white, have no outline, and are not luminous. The stop watch minute and power reserve hand is red.
Sub Dials.
There are three sub dials located at the 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 9 o’clock markers.
At the 3 o’clock marker is the 24-hour sub dial. The hours located between 24 and 12 are in white. The hour markers between 12 and 24 are black.
The sub dial at the 6 o’clock position has two functions. It shows the power reserve and it functions as the minute hand when the watch is in stop watch mode. There is a strip that runs between the 32 minute and 48-minute markers outside of the 6’oclock sub dial that indicates Power Reserve. On the dial itself, between 34 and 46-minute markers are three triangle markers that the sub dial hand points to, to indicate power reserve.
The sub dial at the 9 o’clock position is the second hand for the watch.
The Stop Watch.
To start the stop watch, depress the pusher at the 2 o’clock position. The stop watch hand will start to move from the 12 o’clock position. At the same time the red hand in the sub dial at the 6 o’clock position will leave its power reserve position and relocate to the number 60 marker at the top of the sub dial. By depressing the 2 o’clock button a second time the stop watch hand will stop. Depressing the 4 o’clock button while the stop watch hand is stopped will return that hand to the 12 o’clock position, rotating the hand in a clockwise direction. Depressing the 4 o’clock pusher a second time will return the red hand to the power reserve position.
I have know clue as to how the slide rule or flight computer work.
Thank you for reading this review.
