As the title suggests . I am helping a friend get his 2001 Rolex datejust fixed by a professional watchmaker I know. Long story short but I as a teenager I wanted a datejust as it was the watch to have and what all the fakes were being sold when I was on holiday usually in Tenerife back in the 80 &90s. Last year I bought this Rotary 1980s quartz as my tribute to salute to the datejust as I doubt I will ever own one. I can have the look for little money.. Well for one day only I can show the two together that to be fair mine looks okay. Well it weighs less than half and is not real gold but as a close “homage” it’s okay Just nice for me at least to see them side by side and to actually try a datejust on for the first time in 45 years!

While the look is iconic, and its seems to be as popular as ever; the fluted bezel has never done much for me in two tone just too much bedazzling going on. Stainless bezel is a bit more subdued. Still they look pretty good together.

It’s my only jubilee bracelet too which is amazingly comfortable.

Well even if it's never likely to be in your collection, the chance to handle one and try it on is too precious to pass up. The DateJust is lovely, but so is your Rotary, Mike. Good luck helping your friend to get it serviced properly. I bet he appreciates it.

I always enjoy getting my hands dirty with a posh one Mike and I hope that you did two. It’s interesting to ‘feel’ the difference in quality.

That has to be THE most "homaged" style ever.
Even Seiko released a version.

I was under the impression they could be had in an "All Stainless Version".

As far as I know the Rolex 1601 Datejust (and later number derivatives of ) have the 18k gold bezel. There was also a Rolex 1605 Datejust which had an engined turned S/S bezel. - see this image attached

The Rolex 1600 has a stainless bezel. They are probably my favorite DJ since they’re so simple. No sparkle, just a solid machine that tells time and dyne date

I want a Penis watch. Do you use a French or Swiss pronunciation to stay out of trouble?
