Morning all. Trying to have a quartz day today. Beads of sweat forming on my brow already.... This old Pulsar belonged to my Dad, so quite a lot of sentimental value. Plus it’s quite a nice looking watch, and the second hand hits the marks pretty well :-) Have a great weekend everyone.

I picked this up as part of a job lot of four Citizens the other week - this is the better of the three quartz models. There was some gold thread wrapped around the seconds hand, which I was a bit nervous about removing as I wasn’t sure if it was there for a reason. Thankfully, it wasn’t. It might not be anything special, but considering the lot only cost me £3 I ain’t complaining. Enjoy your day folks

"Dorky Digital Day" for me! It's a 1978 A128-5010. Last night, I was in my safe looking for another watch when I came across this one. I have had this A128 FOREVER, and though it is in fantastic shape it has always been a 'problem child'. The watch worked fine when I got it, until the battery started to get low. The A1xx modules will flash the display when this happens. But no matter what I did after I replaced the battery the display would not stop flashing! I tried all kinds of batteries. From what I have been able to gather it's a pretty common problem on these. Not sure what I did to finally make it stop. I may have put a 3v battery in it for a few seconds to try to jolt the movement out of 'low battery mode'? Worked fine for years after that. When I saw the watch in the safe tonight...the display was flashing. "Oh, no...not this again!"
Just for the hell of it, I decided to do a quick battery swap and see what happened. With a fresh battery, the watch went right into timekeeping mode and the display stopped flashing. Whew! Figured I'd give it a little wrist time today... as a reward for behaving itself!

I finished a re-lume on this today the lume was a really boring grey colour. I started off thinking I'd go for a vintage coffee colour but that didn't work so well on the dial so I ended up going the whole tango. I'm happy with how its turned out. Removing the old lume from the dial was really fiddly. Applying the new lume and trying to get sharp edges was even fiddlier.

Quite bright that is Simon but I quite like it. I have a 6309-7290 I'm toying with reluming as after my 7c43 disaster this dial cleaned up well as I didn't blow water on it. Will do a thread if it's a success... What mag do you use Simon? And also what binder, powder and did you mix with paint or powder and if so what did you use?

I'm still using Bergeon lume & binder. I started off mixing white with a small amount of orange. But while it worked on the hands, on the dial it looked really washed out. So I re-did it with all orange. I'd like to do more (to improve /learn) but as you know this is heart in mouth stuff and its always on the edge of going wrong. I think with a lot more practice it would be possible to achieve much better results.
