Sometimes things aren’t always what they seem to be, but then I guess we’re all aware of that in this hobby This is my one and only kinetic watch and, having one or two others to choose from, it doesn’t get much wrist time. As a consequence this never gets much charge, and I’m lucky if it lasts more than a few days before it starts losing time. Swinging it from side to side doesn’t really help much either - this thing just refuses to hold charge. So when Photobucket temporarily restored hosted pictures a few days ago I had another look at the thread that @penguinbce did on converting kinetic to quartz, and decided to make the change. Ten minutes or so and a fresh 920 battery was all it took and now this is good to use as a grab-and-go for another 2-3 years. SRN054 from April 2014.

Beautiful sunny day here. Currently wearing this - May go back to my Pulsar later on. Wore it all day yesterday and had no mechanical watch withdrawal symptoms.

When I saw you started the thread I hoped we'd be seeing one of your wonderful Silverwaves, Rod. The other day I was wearing my Tissot chronograph that has fogged up after walking to work. After investigating and finding nothing but dirt in the grooves in the pusher tubes where gaskets should be, I stripped it down for a bath in the ultrasonic and the set about identify the right size gasket from a selection box. Long story short - she's done and back together. Hopefully it's sealed properly now.

Finally got around to fitting a battery to see if she runs. Comfy and light, but I don't foresee a lot of wrist time in the future. Rob

Wearing another 'problem child' today. This is an SBDN005 from 2007 that I refer to as my "free watch". These came on bracelet or strap, and with a blue or black dial. I believe it is still in production, though with an updated movement. About 7-8 years ago, I was casually searching for an 8F35 perpetual diver. This was right after Seiko had discontinued them and a mad scramble had ensued to score one. Though I wanted an SBCM023 (black), a really nice SBCM025 (Pepsi) popped up as a BIN on Ebay one night, sold as a pair with this watch. The price was too good to pass up. So good, in fact, that this watch was essentially a freebie. Paid $250 shipped for both at a time when the SBCM alone was selling for around $400...if you could find one! The watch was in decent shape, but either wouldn't hold a charge or wouldn't take a charge. You could leave it in the sun all day, and after a few hours it would go into 'low charge mode'... tick-tick...tick-tick...tick-tick...tick-tick. No problem, I thought. Must just be a bad capacitor, but I thought this was strange for a watch that was only 3-4 years old at the time. I bought this nice Seiko nylon strap for it presuming a quick and easy fix. So I bought a capacitor for it and installed it. Same story! It would run fine for a few hours and then... tick-tick...tick-tick...tick-tick. Didn't matter how long it was charged for, a few hours is all it would give. At this point, I figured it must have some sort of movement problem. I messed with it a little more, became very frustrated with it, and literally threw it in a drawer. Tried to find a NOS V145 with no luck, and looked for V145 parts watches as well. From there it somehow migrated into my safe. There it sat until last night. A few weeks ago I was able to find a V145 parts watch on YJ for snack money, and just got around to doing a movement swap. Believe it or not, the V145 isn't a terribly easy movement to find. The V147 isn't too tough, but it's immediate predecessor is a bit scarcer. I had no idea what to expect from the parts watch as it came in rough shape, sans bracelet and crown/stem. I presumed I would need to swap the new capacitor from the SBDN's movement into the parts watch movement upon swapping it in, but once I got the movement into the diver and inserted the stem it fired right off! Tick..tick..tick..tick..tick.
I can FINALLY wear this one!

Well I’m truely hooked on LCD and picked up this lovely C158 last week at the uk watch fair. It’s been on an off my wrist all week. Considering a stripdown though as to me the screen is a bit dull. Case and keyboard need a clean too.
