So i am in the process of collecting the parts needed to create an orange soxa. I purchased 3 6309 dress watches from india to use as movement. But while waiting for them to come, i realized i already have enough automatics. More than i can regularly wear. So now i am thinking quartz. Either a 7546/7548 (they are pretty much the same right, except for jewel count). If i were to source one from a dress watch (cheape) any specific obstacle you can think off? Maybe i’ll need a different movement ring? Of course i’ll make sure the donor has stem at 4 so that’s less work. I’ll be using a chapter ring for a 7002, a dagaz dial, and the 7290 case. Does it seem like they would all play nice?

You need the plastic ring for the dial (I think the majority of 7546 are the same and probably same as the automatics) and the metal movement ring. There are a few different metal movement rings depending I guess on the case design, although they pretty much look the same except some are thicker and I think the 7548 movement ring has a small slot to fit better around the battery.
Also I wouldnt worry too much about finding a 7546 from a 4 oclock, the day / date parts from a 6309 will fit the 7546 movement.
I would also look for a 7548 battery strap as the 7546 dont come with them and then there is the case back, I think the 7548 case back is lower than the 6309 but it shouldnt be a big issue.

Thank you. That’s the kind of tips i was looking for when i created this post. Anyone that has done this before have the specific part numbers for the holder rings and dial spacers?

You won't be able to use a 7002 chapter in a 6309 slim/cushion case. For a mod I'd just get the aftermarket 6309 chapter ring on eBay.

Thanks. So the “slim case” actually has slim parts. Do i just search for 6309 chapter rings or they have to be specific to the slim case?

It isn't just specific to 'slim case' but specific to the 6309-729x slim case. The 7003 and the skx are also slim cased divers but there are small differences that make most parts incompatible.
For the 6309 chapter ring, there is a groove in it that locks the dial in the correct position. This is not the case with other slim case models.

THank you. Is there any other watch that uses the same chapter ring?

I am. There was only 12 hits for seiko 6309 chapter. Everything else is something ebay thinks is similar. Of the 12 only 1 is orange and its marked for 7002.

Doesn’t seem all that long ago that eBay and all of our favourite parts sellers were awash with 6309 mod parts. Looks like those days are gone, with the price of 6309 divers today I suppose it’s not all that surprising.
Have you checked Ramon’s auctions, seller name thewatchcollector, I think he still carries 6309 parts and I think he has an orange chapter ring...

Actually, just yesterday i got to thinking. Instead of modding the 6309 , i might just mod my skx007 instead.
