I thought it was an absolute certainty that Seiko would commemorate the 50th bday of 6138/9 with a new release. Furthermore, Seiko's apparent lack of interest in mech chronographs is starting to annoy me.
Maybe they have something planned for later in the year.

Me too. I figured a high priced 8R4X series with subdials removed.
If 6138s didn't come out until 1970 maybe that is the play.

I was watching the livestream from the Seiko event in Baselworld briefly and saw that they actually showed two watches introduced in 1969 - 6139 and the original Astron. And yet they did nothing for the 6139, and the Astron was celebrated by just another GPS. I did hear from a local Seiko AD that they are releasing some new models later this year, which they actually already showed to dealers in Basel but for some reason not to the public.. so maybe thereâs still hope!

I'm thinking their plans for the 6138/9 homage are not WAY overpriced, so there was no reason to announce them at Basel.

Myself I can't understand why they couldn't tweak the 8R48 and eliminate a few subdials. It would be an LE expensive watch so the 8R series would be 28,800 bph and fit the price point north of $3K (or dare we say $4K or even $5K)

The SLA033 was leaked back in December, as did most of SEIKO's Baselworld PROSPEX announcements this year, apart from the 4R field watches, which seem to be SRPA77 / 75 / 73 / 71 replacements, as Rob from Monsterwatches lists the SRPA77 as no longer available once current stock of it has run out.

Cool thing huangciz ! I was totally unaware until the leak a few days before Baselworld. Which you wouldn't expect considering I have one on order !
