Saw this few weeks back and thought it was you. It could be someone trying to sell it off on YJ and then later get you to drop ship it?

Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated! I always anyway skip the listings of this seller, due to overpriced and generally suspicious listings, but it’s good to know that they are in fact complete fraudsters.

It's not really a scam. More like brazen profiteering if it works.
The Yahoo seller lists jringo's bezel for say, twice the price asked by jringo. If he gets the inflated price he will try to buy it off jringo. If he gets it off jringo, he has made a nice profit. If he doesn't get it off jringo, the purchaser will get refunded with an excuse about why he can't supply it.
It is unethical for sure.
Have a read of what's under the search box near the top of the Yahoo page. It says proxy in the address. Yahoo even has a listing area for this sort of "scam".

That’s interesting, and indeed if I now look at the listings, they make perfect sense as they say something about a “local exhibitor”. Thanks, I’ve learned something today.

The same thing happens in the reverse direction as well: There's several eBay sellers who list YahooJP items for 50-100% over what they're listed for on YahooJP. If someone purchases it from their eBay store, they buy it from YahooJP and ship it to their customer.
One of the most prolific watch drop-shippers is "Japan_preowned_vintage" or some similar name, but there's several others who do it.
I don't think there's anything illegal about it or breaking the rules. If seller a wants x price and and a middle man is able to find a buyer that is willing to pay 2x, then the middleman can pocket x difference.
Slightly shifty and unethical? Sure. But good luck getting yahooJP, eBay, or any other online marketplace to reign in these drop-shippers.

There is at least the issue of using other people's pictures. In Germany/Europe this is illegal and you can claim compensation if somebody uses your pictures without permission. Not sure about USA and Japan though...

I have purchased items from Saltoftheworld before. I usually only put in a low bid. If I get it, good, if not, not worried. Maybe I cost him because what I got was less than the going rate. Never again.
This playground is getting too crowded with too much money and no common sense. I think it might be time to step back and take a break from buying for awhile. I have enough projects to keep me busy until this storm blows over.
I was about to post about seeing strangely familiar items on both YJ and ebay. Same pictures, same serial number. Wondered how that worked. Now we know.

I'd clocked that particular seller on Yahoo recently. It can work to your advantage though if you use his listings and then search for the same item at its source i.e eBay - you'll be able to get it for the right price.
I've got a few drop resellers watched on eBay for the same purpose, helps me to find the interesting stuff on Yahoo. Always let someone else do the legwork 😉

I've got a few drop resellers watched on eBay for the same purpose, helps me to find the interesting stuff on Yahoo. Always let someone else do the legwork 😉 That's exactly what I do! And it's how I found my King Seiko SCVN001. Saw a few of the typical eBay drop-shippers with the exact same listing and really loved the condition of this particular example. Found the original listing on Yahoo JP for 50-70% lower than the eBay drop-shippers had it listed (they always mark up by 50-70%), negotiated with the seller, and now it's mine. As you said, you can use the drop-shippers as your personal deal-finding pawns once you realize their game.
