The date dial on many Seiko's is unmarked with a reference number. Unlike the day dial with star disc which is clearly marked. While assembling a spare 7548 movement, I decided to impart some knowledge on how to tell, with ease, which is for which model by feature recognition. The easiest and simplest method being to look at the number 7 in relationship to adjacent gear teeth. Note: Although I show a black figure on white (silver) dial and a white figures on black dial, the colour combination is irrelevant. Picture 1. The top horizontal stroke of the '7' aligns precisely with the centre line of an adjacent tooth. These dials are for movements where the date window and crown are both at the 3 o'clock position. Seiko parts reference numbers therefore apply, 801601 801604 Picture 2. The top horizontal stroke of the '7' aligns precisely mid way between two adjacent teeth. These dials are for movements where the date window is at 3 o'clock and the crown at 4 o'clock positions. Seiko parts reference numbers therefore apply, 801602 801610

Awesome! This is exactly what I needed to know to get the date on my old Pulsar diver aligned in the window. The guy I bought it from replaced the original movement, and the day/date misalignment is driving me nuts.
