Based on the massive success of group projects in the past, I was considering offering this as a group restore and offer it for sale at the end or a prize in an up coming comp. I purchased this from Raymon and it rocked up with some good and bad points. It’s beyond my scope and before I flip it I thought of suggesting a combined group restoration challenge. The Good: so the watch has decent glass the pushers and crown is all there, the case is reasonable and the hard to find bracelet is probably the stand out. The Bad: The case is fused on- a watchmaker with a big bench mounted caseback opener couldn’t budge it. The dial shows signs of rust, the stem is busted, the movement is likely cactus. The challenge. Share the watch amongst the members and move it along once you’ve completed a process. Eg. the first step is the case back: tritto Aka Tristan has agreed to have a go at the caseback. Then if anyone else is willing, they could have a go at the dial. Then move along for movement. Then casing, and finishing. Finally the watch could be sold as a fundraiser for the WS site maintenance or offered as a prize. The postage is a significant dampener, but if you think this is a reasonable challenge respond and we can get the ball rolling. Cam

Wow, I can see someone has had a go at the caseback! I’ll be up for something, although postage to UK may be a killer. I’ll just have to buy something from one of you lot down under to cover it! Or maybe it could go a more sedate route, although you’re a long way from pretty much anywhere so not sure how much that helps?

Once we get it over the ditch it should get a bit cheaper.... I’ll get it to tritto and i will get a bag of goodies to make it worth your while or I’ll throw in postage to get it over there. It’s too good a watch to waste. Does postage get a bit cheaper to send it from Her Majesties to the rest of the northern hemisphere?

If we're happy sending it in an untracked padded envelope it's very cheap to get to the UK.

Has anyone tried freezing the watch to loosen it the caseback? Also depending on how rusty it might be A little creeping solution might get inside and allow that case back to break free We here have stuff like Deep Creep Kano Krill or Kroil PB blaster ... God Bless,John

Well, I don't want to spoil the party, but I have this one lying in the parts box with no use for it. It is a non-runner and the bracelet is missing, but case and dial are like new. Bought it last year from Victoria together with an Elnix I was actually interested in, so I am happily willing to send it wherever it might be useful.

If you get it to the UK then we could work something out between the members here.
I can definitely do the case and bracelet refinishing.
The movement is probably toast but willing to give it a go if no one else wants to do it.

I’ll get things started next week. tritto will receive the original watch head and bracelet and will attempt to remove the caseback. tempelkim has been kind enough to share a nicer orange example. I’ll get them to send it to pip in the UK and he can have a gander at both examples and see what can be salvaged from either. kue will be able to assist with pip once things have been assessed. Thank you all so far for your help and we will update this as it moves along.
