After seeing one of these on WRUW a while back I decided that this would be my next project......... Actually that isn't strickley true. I was after a 1995 red Seiko Alpanist but lost out on one of the few that came up but as I'd had the go ahead from the boss, I saw a Citizen 67-9313 come up for sale. A non runner for parts or repair. These don't seem to come up very often and I thought why not. It's a beautiful watch and I really wanted a 70's automatic chrono. My 1st thought was a 6139-6002 but they seem to be in abundance and picking a decent one from all the modified ones seemed harder to do. Good, untouched ones are a lot of money. That said, I will get one to sit next to my 7A28-7030 I already have one day but I digress..... So, to the speedy. It arrived this morning and I have to say I'm pleased. Even if it never runs, what a Beautiful watch. The crystal is in perfect condition and the dial is in a good enough condition that I probably won't touch it. The citizen logo is straight and the date surround is good. The day/date also looks fine. The bezel insert is faded and in all honesty, doesn't look as bad in real life as the photos make it seem. As they're like rocking horse **** that is something I may have to live with so may as well be positive about it. The lume is also good. The crown is also the original I think. The hands are not so good and its missing the second hand and the lower chrono dial hand. I'm going to experiment with a set of bullhead hands I've got coming. Wrong colour but I may be able to paint them. We'll see what they turn out like. It's dated from June 1977 and has a low serial no. as far as I can work out. So without further ado.....

They are certainly beautiful pieces, nice pick up! Wil you be doing the work yourself?

They are certainly beautiful pieces, nice pick up! Wil you be doing the work yourself? I'm going to start with the basics and see if it'll run. Give it a good clean up and go from there. I've ordered some bullhead hands that fit the 8110a movement as an experiment but I'm really not sure. At this moment it is my favourite thing I own and I don't want to mess it up. 😎

Nice catch and yes they're gorgeous! My personal favourite is the 9119 model powered by the same 8110a movement. The hands will clean up nicely, remove the layer of paint using acetone and paint them using acrylic gloss white. (measure the distance of the white painted area and chrome areas first though!) Keep us posted!

Good news. It runs. The balance wheel seems to bind on something and if its moved then it stops, but I got it running and it works. I haven't touched it at all yet really and from what I can tell, all the movement is there. I have sorted the date change as well. So hopefully just a service and hands.....

Small update. It has been running for over 18hrs now non-stop so I'm pleased with that. It looks like the balance cock is loose so when the watch is moved that causes the balance wheel to stop. If it's not moved, it runs which is much better than nothing at all.

Thanks for updating us! Regarding the dial; clean it up with rodico and think about spraying an acrylic matte/flat varnish/clearcoat from a can held at distance. This will hide scratches on the dial and will make it wearable (I know finding dials is close to impossible for the speedy). The pusher can be bent back into shape, hold the pusher in a pin vice and gently apply pressure on the stalk. Be careful and go slow or else you risk breaking off the stalk!

These are likely one of the best competitors to the Seiko 6138. Citizen was not taking a back seat when they developed this movement and the design department did an equally awesome job on the case and dial

Haven't had much time but this is the tacho dial at the moment. Think I'll do a bit more but it's getting there. It takes ages though. 1st as it was then as it is now. I'm not saying it's perfection and under x20 will look terrible but to the eye this is it.
