So I’ve got a bunch of citizen watches. My grandpa got me into citizen watches. It seems like you can get plenty of decent vintage citizen watches at good prices.
Since I’d like to do more educated collecting I’d like to find good sources of information on them. Problem is, there doesn’t seem to be any organized or collected information about movements or reference numbers.
I know there’s some standards with regards to the serial number on the back, and movement production dates.
If there’s any great sources to support citizen watch collecting I really appreciate some help finding them.
I was hoping for stuff like -time lines -Production dates -different model information - movement information - collecting books Etc
Thanks all.

I love vintage Citizen watches. I don't have many, but I'm always impressed when I see the wide array they had.

The Dragonfly series has three books on Vintage Citizens (#s 4, 6, and 8). All in Japanese but very helpful for finding reference numbers. I have #4 that covers the manual wind references. Honestly, I'm into Seiko and really have no use for this book, so I'd be willing to send it to you for the cost of postage next time I'm stateside (shipping from Norway would be cost prohibitive for a book). www.plus9time.com/japanese-domestic-watch-series

“Please post pics of your collection. I love vintage Citizen watches. I don't have many, but I'm always impressed when I see the wide array they had.”
I only have a few and they most of them are in various states of repair.
I got into citizen because my grandpa came me his old watches and the only non-Walmart watch was a citizen he bought in the Philippines in the late 80s. It needed work and I managed to do more damage trying to take it apart. Since then I’ve set it aside and have began educating myself on citizen. I’ve bought several different project watches in my attempts to learn and am working on getting those going. Problem is, citizen doesn’t have as good a support system as seiko or other brands. Regardless, I love a challenge and love the look of some of those old citizen watches.
So sorry but nothing really great to take pictures of at the moment. Sorry if I miss led you.
Thanks!

If you’d be willing to send those to me, I’d be happy to pay for shipping. I can wait till your in the states next too. Thanks!

I only have the #4, but I'd be happy to pop it in a $6 priority flat-rate envelope and send it to you when I'm back in the U.S. this September. I know that's sort of a long time to wait, but it's just cost prohibitive to send this sort of thing through Norwegian post. The Norwegian post office is broke and has been on a cash-grab since last year, so prices for anything other than a card or letter now start at about $30 for international shipping (yeah, friggin' ridiculous). If you want #6 and #8 you can also find them for around their original MSRP of 2900 JPY ($25-30ish USD) on Yahoo JP or through some Japanese online bookstores. Again, it's probably not worth the cost of shipping to the U.S. just for a single book, but since most proxy services will combine items for you into a single parcel, you could combine these books with other watches/parts from Japan to cut the per-item shipping cost.

Akable has done a great job uploading reference material. I also have info, so please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about vintage Citizens, either here or via my blog.

I'm still trying to find a casing guide for the Ecozilla if anybody knows where to find such a thing. The earlier model I'm trying to get the bezel off. I think it may be a very very tight push fit as nearly all the pictures online show the bezel writing in the same location and if it was screw down it would be different? I mean, how can you change the glass if you can't get the bezel off??? Hence trying to locate a casing guide...

I hadn’t found that one before so thanks Stephen. It seems Citizen assumed you’d never want to change the crystal or fix a bezel click, the latter being all I am trying to do.
