Hi I'm in the market for a SEIKO 6138 8030 and came over this watch. The hour marks looks repainted. What do you guys think? Also unsure about the hand. They look very white.

It does look suspicious doesn’t it. My guess is a repaint but more pics would help to be sure as I suppose it’s possible it could be the lighting. I’m only looking on my phone though so maybe with a bigger screen it would be easier to see.

I’ll take a back seat and hand this to those who own JPS’s... but doesn’t look quite right to me.

Here is one i have kicking around in a draw waiting restoration for comparison. This one of mine came via the original owner who worked for JPS racing.

The case looks to be very polished in the one in your post. Looks to have had a long, hard life to me. 6138 Calibre movements really need to be in good condition to get any decent timekeeping from them. You might end up spending more on restoration that the watch is worth. Just my view on them. Good luck

Also look at the inner bezel on his watch. The are not meant to move like on some watches. That one is a pig by the looks of it.

PASS Here’s mine yes the sweep hand is wrong it should be white. The inner tachy ring is rotating around because the dial tab is not installed into the slot. That’s not a big deal. Even then a dial dot would fix it right

The chrono hand in my opinion has definitely been painted and the case has been polished into oblivion <insert fecal emoji>. Some of what makes vintage Seikos so awesome are the various case styles, contrasting finishes, and samurai-like angles.

There is some nice brush effect cut into each end of the case and all the lines are sharp and straight. I'll take a photo tomorrow as I'm running out of ham to get the fox to leave me alone out there now it's dark.

Even then a dial dot would fix it right Nice watch. Mine isn't on it's original bracelet as the guy I bought the watch off couldn't find it or the box. He swore he had them knocking around. Maybe one day! You can see the brushed metal finish on the end of the watch. This isn't done with a file or sand paper. It is multidirectional in it's cuts. Done on a machine. I am a metal worker by trade. I'd struggle to get that finish without the proper tooling.
No big deal with the bezels. One of mines not spot on if you look. It just shows someone who doesn't know those watches has been inside fiddling.
I have the blue version too. Those are nice little 6138s. Not huge like a UFO or bullhead.

Good luck with the fox
