Thanks for taking the time to email them directly. I am officially shocked. I'll concede probably only the assembly is done in Japan, but hey, the Swiss aren't any better. During my visits to the Shizukuishi factory I have seen the components being made. This ranges from the machining of components from raw stock, hardening of components in a furnace, drawing springs from stock, etc. Numerous machines were labelled with the components that they were producing and on multiple cases it stated 9S/8L on the description of the item being produced. Obviously the levels of finishing differs between movements but the initial production steps from a blank piece of steel to manufacture a palette fork for example are the same. I also witnessed trays of 8L movements being assembled and also Prospex models having hands and dials fitted before dropped into a case. A MM200 case was shown as part of the examples of models that were assembled at the factory in addition to the GS models.
