www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/planet-omega/sport/tokyo-2020I wonder how many models Seiko would have produced if they were the official timekeeper at their home olympics? From what I can recall, they don’t really seem to bother when it’s the IAAF World Championships. I think last time for London 2017 they released one 8T67 calibre quartz chronograph with a commemorative caseback.

I do have a super runner from the 2019 Tokyo Marathon in a commemorative box and pin. That's nothing compared to the killing they could have made for the Olympics

That's a good question Nick. Given the plethora of Omega's offerings I would imagine Seiko could go nuts with commemorative models. But then again, Seiko seems to move to the beat of their own drum. I just hope that Omega doesn't offer up a limited run of Jeff Bezos Speedmasters

Omega knows how to leverage its sponsorship of the Olympics. I've seen references to some medal winners wearing gifted Omega watches too.

I often wonder what Seiko actually gets out of having Novak Djokovic as a ‘brand ambassador’. After he won Wimbledon this year I was expecting to see him proudly sporting an Astron or similar on Centre Court - if he was it was pretty well covered by his long sleeved top!
I’m a huge MotoGP fan, and in Parc Ferme after a race one of the first things the riders do is get handed their watch to strap on before the media interviews start. I’m guessing most will be Tissot (as they’re the official timekeeper) but I know the Moto3 Leopard team wear Anonimo automatics. And what size watch box does Marc Marquez have at home to keep all his Tissot Pole Position watches in?

Interesting ref the Tissot.
I tested a new friends new Tissot Seastar Powermatic on Tuesday.
-4 s/d, 330 AMP 3.3 B.E. (2 very iffy lines) 21600 Beat
These movements have a silicon balance spring and no regulation system, just a timing adjuster.

Hi Nick, sorry my error with the spelling and description. The spring is Silicon (cock engraved Si). The rotor is etched SILICON BALANCE SPRING. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYM4PpiTcEA

The balance wheel has 2 opposing screws which I assume are for setting the beat. They look very delicate against the wheel and not something a tinker would get near.

One thing I like about the Omega Olympic editions is that it doesn't seem to impact the value much, and makes for a slightly more interesting watch. I love wearing my older Nagano Speedmaster which was no more expensive than a regular small speedy. Attachments:

As you probably know, Seiko released several commemorative models when they were the official timekeeper in 1964, including the world time models (6217-8000) and the mono pusher chronographs (45899), and of course the most elusive of all 5718-8000 Counter Chrono!
