I see more then a few people talk about getting or being on the hunt for Seiko's with manufacturing dates that match the birth month and year. Is that a common goal for collectors? In just browsing the vintage Seiko's, I would probably have to look for a Seiko Marvel model.

I was born in August, 1974...kind of in the "sweet spot" for vintage Seikos. I have a few that are my birth month/year, including an orange 6119-6400.
One time, I could not believe my luck. I found a 6139-600x on Ebay that was not only my birth month and year, but also already had my INITIALS..."AC"...engraved in the back!
Shoulda gone nuclear in the bidding, but I didn't. It went somewhere else. I still think about that watch and how the winner probably thought the caseback was "damaged" by the engraving. embarrassed-smiley-face

I've only managed to find two from Feb '65, one of which was a complete crock and I'm keeping it only for the case back. The other is this one. The date is stamped inside the case back so you'll have to take my word for it ! I must admit that a '65 will be favoured over another year if there's more than one to choose from. I've got quite a few (see my gallery). laugh1.gif

I'm glad some can find birth month and year watches, and some are really nice. I've never tried. I don't think I've ever seen a watch from May of 1944.

I've got a 7005-8050 from August '69 which is a month away from my birthday in September. I'd quite like a birth date watch but I wouldn't overpay for one. I think the guys who were born in the early '70's seem to have the most choice of models. And for some reason, at least 70% of my collection is from '71, maybe production was high that year, maybe it's just coincidence ?

I bought this wreck of a 6105-8000 specifically because it was a birth year and month watch for me. Here's what it looks like now:

So, what Seiko watches would be available from July 1951?

I have yet to locate anything from Feb '66, but I have accumulated a nice mixed batch from '66.

The guys who really have it good are dudes born between mid '69 and Fall '79. Talk about an amazing range of watches to choose from!

I hardly ever see anything from '69 ! deep-sigh-smiley-emoticon I'd say that most of what catches my eye is from 70, 71 & 75. Perhaps I need to expand my taste a bit so I can find something from Sept. '69.

I could only go as close as the year 1971 but that's good enough for me...
Got a silver Pogue, Navigator Timer and a Bell Matic from that year. But anything from the 70's is really cool in my book.
