I had a guy come in yesterday after calling. He wanted to bring me an old Seiko of his that had sat in a drawer for years. He brought his Seiko, his since new - a gold Bellmatic 4006-7006 from November '70. He'd bought it while in the Marine Corps in 1970, when he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He says he wore it through "some of the 70s". Then as will happen, the dial feet sheared off (the alarm ring works on the dial and over time this happens regularly) so the dial started spinning with the alarm ring. It had never been serviced, or opened, since it was made in November 1970. But the dial looked clean under the worn crystal, and the lume was still white - a great indicator. The caseback was stiff, and there was the typical age-old grot in the crevices. It took some extra pressure to spin the back off, but I actually whistled when it came off to reveal the movement - bright as a new penny. I'll follow up as this goes along, but it's wonderful to be able to see how sweet a vintage Seiko can be, especially an original-owner watch that hasn't been opened since Nixon was president. But since we're here - anyone have a dial for one of these? Any solid cure for broken dial feet on a Belle?

Looking forward to seeing the progress, I have no doubt it'll turn out nice. I believe Chris mentioned in the Shoutbox, that he has some dials.

Just have to wonder, how tightly cinched did he wear it to deform the spring bars like that?
