So how come Blue Badge holders are pretty much exempt from the hosepipe bans here in Blighty? Why does having a badge that enables you to park your car in a particular parking bay mean you’re still allowed to water your garden or wash your car with a hosepipe?

The few days after we here in Winchester received our ban notification (by email and letter) a guy not too far from me washed his cars along with his young son. I think there are those that do and those that don't. He's NOT a Blue Badge holder either.

That is one of the reasons why I really like this forum - you get different perspectives from people all over the world (not so far away in this case, but you get the idea). I found the explanation at the BBC: Hosepipe ban means, you are not allowed to use a hosepipe but you are allowed to use a can or a bucket to water your plants. As disabled people might have problems with that they are exempt from the ban. What makes this interesting is the part about cleaning you car, which is included in the ban. That implies when it's over you are allowed to clean your car with a hosepipe... ...which is outrageous here at any time because you might poison ground water.

Many BB holders I see could carry a 100kg bag of cement without issue.

Many BB holders I see could carry a 100kg bag of cement without issue. And that’s precisely my point Don. Just because you’re a BB holder doesn’t automatically mean you have problems carrying stuff. The ban comes into effect here (Kent) on Friday. It won’t affect us at all as we never use the hose on the garden anyway, but I shall be jet-washing our patio before then. Not that I need to do it before Friday - use of a pressure washer seems only to be banned for washing the car, not a patio…
