New obsessive and tinkerer here. I come to the forum after bingeing the My Retro Watches YT channel (hi Mike if you're about, hope you're on the mend).
I know very little about the whole of the repair/restoration hobby so far, but I'm learning. After changing batteries, links and straps and the like, I've graduated to swapping out gaskets and crystals. The plan is to move on to servicing and maybe even custom builds/modding. I've recently picked up a '76 Seiko 7019-8210 which is losing a little bit of time, so it's likely to end up on the bench when I'm a bit more confident. I'll probably stream/Vod it too - I've streamed and cast competitive CCGs in the past. Think of me as a VERY budget Marshall Sutcliffe.
I'm currently in the process of hunting down a 90s era black dial Seiko I bought as a student.

Hey there endy - you had me laughing out loud with that last line. I'm looking forward to your project and hope we can all lend a hand where needed. Welcome to the forum and indeed hold on to that wallet!

Welcome! You definitely have a group of enablers here
I had to google CCG and Marshall Sutcliffe... "Magic: The Gathering" was new when I was in High School, and I had thousands of early cards. Gave them all to my brother years ago... and he lost them in a flood. To think of all the watches he could have traded them for... ugh.
If you are into collecting, there are quite a few rabbit holes to explore in vintage Seikos. My first was World Timers (1964-1976), now bell-matics. Tons of people also chase the chronographs from the same era.
Marshall runs the Wristwatch Revival channel on YT in addition to his MTG stuff (a game I've never played, weirdly). My journey began with inheriting my grandad's old pocket watch, which is a non-running marriage job in a J W Benson case. My dad gave me his old Waltham, the missus bought be a 1947 Bulova for a birthday some years back and so on. They have no basis for complaint now if I disappear into the hobby cul-de-sac. On looking for info on the pocket watch movement and how to restore it, I found Mark Lovick's watch repair channel, then wristwatch revival, then my retro watches, which brought me here.

Michael and Marshall both inspired me as well and I’ve had a similar evolution as you. For years, I would do watch band stuff but then got adventurous and replaced a few crystals. It was only recently though that I began to remove hands and dials and clean cases. Michael and Marshall made me think I could go further and I have had over a dozen watches completely apart and back together just in the last 6 months. It’s a very rewarding hobby that I’ve only scratched the surface of. The people here on this board are amazing and can help advise with any issues. Welcome aboard and see you around.
