OK It is October 5th (somewhere) Day 5 of the October WRUW daily theme. Today's theme is “Wear your birth watch”
If you were lucky your parents were WIS' and bought a watch for you (or them) at the time to commemorate the event.
If not maybe a relative bought a watch for you or gave your parents each one at the time as a congratulations gift which was then passed on to you (or maybe they still have it)
Bulova's starting in 1949 have a code on the caseback telling you the decade and the year but not the month.
Rolex used to do year and quarter but not month of the year.
Seiko and Citizen (aren't we lucky ) do month and year and make it possible for most of use to find a watch with a "born on date" that matches yours.
You could take it to the next level and find a watch with the original sales receipt that shows it was sold the same month and year or better yet same day as you were born
Then there is also the chance that when you win the lottery you can contact Patek Phillipe and have them go through their archives and find what watches they made on your birthday and find the store it was shipped to and go through that stores archives and find out who they sold it to and then find that person and track down who they sold it or handed it down to and so on and so on . . . . .
Moral of the story: if you are expecting a child buy a watch this year for them.
What better story to tell them when they grow up than "Daddy wasn't in the delivery room because he was at the store buying you a watch"

I got this 2625-0010 for my kid on his 7th Bday. Watch is from my birth month / year and is the only one I have to match both month and year. He lost the bezel while playing in the schoolyard and been on a hunt for a donor. Fortunately I got another one from HiBeat (thanks!). For now will keep the first one in Col. Kurtz mode. Lovely watch with a great case shape. If only would have been a bit larger …

Well this is difficult as I started collecting Seiko's from 1964 a few years ago and have amased quite a few from 1964 and four from April my birth month! I've been wearing the Silverwave all day as they are just a nice size! [

Not a birth watch, but quite close. I got this when I was 4 or 5. Now my son owns it.

I’ve got half a dozen birth year (1968) watches including two birth year/month examples - a 7625-7053 and this 6602-8040. Date is wrong, I know, but I couldn’t be arsed cycling through almost a month to get it right…

I have several birth year watches, but this is the only birth month/year piece I have.

Like leffemonster I have quite a few BY and several BYM watches. This is my favourite (today anyway) from the BYM category. June ‘68. I have one BYM for my wife (more recently than mine but a gentleman never tells haha!) in the form of a Bellmatic which is pretty cool. I have also been looking for a long time for a March 2011 watch for my son’s BYM without success. I think my best bet may be an SKX007 or similar and I’ve seen within a month or two but never a “13xxxx” caseback. So if anyone has one… 😁

6306-7000 with large knurl crown. I purchased this one from the original owner in Australia 15 years ago. Back then you could back door deals on Ebay. Now their software recognizes key words and blocks your messages. I think bidding was at $20 and I offered the seller something like $175 or $200. He said he would think about it. A few days later he said he would sell it to me for my price even though he had several other offers higher than mine. The difference was all of the other people putting in offers initially tried to lowball him and kept raising their offers after he said no and since I was the only honest person up front he chose me. After the sale I got the back story that he was on "Holiday" during Christmas in Hong Kong with his family when he was 17 and got the watch there. The serial number doesn't match the month but the purchase date does. I wrote this up a 2 months ago for the day I finally went (and have had to update as shit gets worse every week). Unfortunately every time I tried to get up 2 hours early I went back to bed since I toss and turn all night and can't sleep. Now that it is 40 degrees out why not make it more difficult. And my beater watch after all it has been through died while sitting on the table. It ran fine when I wound and set it a 2 weeks ago when I was ready to go the night before and then when I grabbed it end of last week to finally go it was dead. Up at the ASSCRACK of dawn Scubarob style. Unfortunately the sun isn’t up yet and won't be up for at least another hour or more. Have to go for a long ride to make a few stops before work. And the zipper pull on one of my jackets broke 3 weeks ago I had planned to go every week day for the last 7 weeks. That is why I scrubbed my new tires several weeks ago on 3 lane wide slow driving assholes Sunday. Every morning couldn't get up early.
Finally going this morning before it gets below zero.

My first tinkering job, the one that brought me here, was supposed to be the "BYM" but this is where I ended up. It's a 51 and I'm a 61.
Fun fact is that today is my Wife's Birthday! She's an 0O, but the earliest Seiko I've made for her is a 59 so we couldn't do the Husband and Wife BYM which I would offer extra credit for those who could ( pip) if it were my call
raz - I just built one of those 2625-0010 for my Daughter! It's an 18 while she's a 38 so it's 20 years older than she is, but right month

Everyone have time for a story?
Anyone ‘Member? I ‘Member. wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/14619/wruw-july-6-2017?page=2&scrollTo=154145A little over 5 years ago to the date (that I planned to originally make it) Stopped by TOS from TNJ. wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/14674/wruw-wednesday-july-12?page=2&scrollTo=154768Time to recreate the picture. Suns still not up yet. Only the second time there. First time was to do inventory prep back when I was new and ready to prove my dedication and work ethic and so on and so on . . . . This time was to see if my OG homie who was a department supervisor (of multiple departments) at our store until last summer when the way the company was going he told them he was stepping down and wanted to transfer and be a lowly OFA (the guy that picks your online order items off of the shelf for you so all you have to do it show up and pick them up) was still there or alive. Management made him go see a shrink and get a certified psych eval before they would let him downgrade and transfer. Jumbo éclairs (not to be confused with the city of Eau Claire here) at the truck stop FURTHER up the highway. Came across this place by accident 25 years ago. You mention the name of the place and it seems most everyone in a 50 mile radius knows the place or has heard about it. 20 years ago I posted pics of said place and my Timex digital I had strapped to my handlebars on TOF. Unfortunately they "Sold Out" and history was erased to fit the "Agenda" Funny (or not) about all of the parallels if you connect the dots. 3 Degrees. There's that sunrise they were talking about.
I saw some great views in my mirrors and on the way back but unfortunately it is kind of hard to ride and take pictures at the same time Now back to work. 80 miles later. That is “approximately” 1/8th of the way to where I should be be. Whenever I head that direction and am already over 25 miles in that direction I keep telling myself I am whatever % of the way there and I should just keep going.

A peculiar realization today, of all the watches I currently have, none is a birth watch. With that being the case, this Mondaine will have to be the surrogate for today.

I've sold more than a few watches to guys here and on TOF because they had a child and wanted that BM/BY serial number for the kid.
