Ain't got no birth year watch neither. I happen to be wearing this one today - it started out handsome, back around the time I was starting grade school I guess. Like me it has been scuffed up a bit and looks kind of rough, but it's still ticking along like new. I like it.

The fact that this is my "birth year/month" watch is more luck than planning - but I don't think I could have planned for a better one: This example has the "less common" black colored faceplate. It was offered in silver, black and gold-tone versions. Additionally, there were 3 sub-models with small differences, the original 5007, the 5009 and the 5011. I am not sure what (if any) differences there are with the 5007 vs 5009, but the 5011 is easy to spot - the SEIKO logo is in the top-middle of the face plate, instead of at top-left - and the bracelet is the removable links / deployment clasp type. Here's a little back story: The C153 was (I believe) Seiko's first calculator watch. It was NOT the first calculator watch, that credit goes to Pulsar (Hamilton) in 1975. It is not the second or third either - several other brands beat Seiko to market on this one. But it is (currently) my favorite of the early calculator watches. Released in 1977, the C153 could do your standard math calculations - add, subtract, multiple and divide. It also had advanced features, including square root and percentage calculations, and a memory feature. I don’t think it could hold a candle to inboost ’s watch in yesterday’s WRUW, but there might be a few years difference that explains some of that. Honestly I have no idea how any of those advanced features work, but I do know how to enter 8008135 backwards - so you can read it upside down. And let's be honest - this was the most important feature as a kid. It also displays the date, day of the week, and time in AM/PM as well as ticking seconds. It is operated with two buttons on the right side, and a crown that functions similarly to the M158 - pull it out to set the date/time, or push it in to toggle between clock and calculator modes. And yes - it has a corner light for night time use! The caliber C153A has a quartz oscillator running at 32,768hz. It provides +/- 10 seconds per month accuracy, that’s +/- 2 minutes per year. inboost - I count 27 buttons on this one, and can’t imagine I have anything with more than that… do you? This is a nice blocky watch, that wears a lot like my Apple Watch. In fact, you could argue that this is conceptually similar to a modern smart watch - as its purpose was to essentially get a little computer onto your wrist, that also happened to tell the time. Also, I think they picked the perfect bracelet for this watch. I wonder if they borrowed (copied) the design from the Casiotron X1-S? It feels like a prop from a sci-fi film from years long past. These watches came with a stylus that I suppose was intended to be carried around in your shirt pocket - and used to operate the tiny calculator buttons. NOTE for Tyrone Jenkins : next time around we should consider having a "watch that required accessories" day... I bet there are some other cool ones out there. Here's a photo of my other two C153's with box and Stylus... You can see it here advertised alongside the M158 (PAN-AM) and 100th/Second Chronograph - at 48,000 YEN it was the most expensive of the lot: According to the internet, 48,000 YEN in 1977 would be about 78,000 YEN today. That’s about 475 GPB and 540 USD Here’s an alternate dial frame recreation from my those same three models: You can see my teardown and clean-up thread here: wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/23369/cleaning-c153-5007

dapellegrini - excellent post, and recreating an advertisement for a multi-watch ad is a total bonus play. Although I don't think a lot of us can play in the realm of 'show the model line' or 'recreate an advertisement' I bet that would be a spectacular theme for a day that you would knock out of the park
Wow, you beat me by three buttons! That's only becuase my CFX-200 had to go to menu driven soft buttons for all the scientific functions it hosts. If it had individual keys for each operation or number it would have had to have been a 24 normal keys + 23 scientific functions - 2 function keys no longer needed = 45 button watch
The one I really want is a Seiko C515-500A - found mostly in silver (-5000) but I want the black faced one. These look like a perfect copy of a miniature HP calculator with the trapezoidal buttons. gotta have one some day, and I'm hoping the click-feel is as good as HP's calculators are!

I also got several birthyear watches, but no birthday watch. But this one I could have easily picked yesterday, because it's high in my top 10... It's a Seiko EL-370, build in 1972... But I also could have chosen these:

That Blue Dial is freak'n fantastic. Going through my box of watches last night I noticed I was going through a blue period a few years ago. Very cool.

Dang, Day 5 already. “Birth Watch”. I keep an eye out for any 66 series Seiko’s that may fall into the 94XXX (Apr ’69) range. None so far. I wouldn’t mind any of the 7xxx series either. I thought I had this one 94XXXX, as a birth watch, but it turned out to be the wrong watch for the case back…Yet IIRC was given a correct bracelet from HiBeat. While not a total let down, it isn’t what I though it was. It has been a while since it was on my wrist… and because it isn’t really correct, I just gave a quick photo. The I love the sector dial and the blue is very cool. When looking head-on they are two very different colors. When you twist your wrist in the right light, they are identical. You can almost see it near the seconds hand passing. It is pretty freaky to see it disappear. While most Dial Codes and Case Reference Codes are different, in this case they should be the same 7005-7080. I’m thinking now that I have a second one of these with a red dial??/Or maybe because it was a gold cased version it got sold on eBay??? I know I have said it before but figure it's worth mentioning again. The 7005 might might have been an experiment by Seiko to see if they could make a colander watch with as few parts as possible. This one keep s great time and while not serviced by me I doubt it ever has been. That alone shows the true testament to Seiko's durability in the 7xxx series of movements.

Could you believe, they sold me this watch as a black dial? But you're right, the dial is amazing. Changing from very dark blue to bright blue, depending on the light.

Rod - that is a dream lot for me. Two thumbs! I love that etched version of the tsunami wave. Same with the Silverwaves from SteveX and saldog - wow. Add in a couple vintage Alpinists and maybe I would hang up my collecting hat for a while
