Back in 2014 there was a WristSushi community event that saw a Seiko World Timer make a trip around the world, documented here: wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/5006/official-world-traveler-discussion-threadTo kick off 2023, and after chatting with Groundhog66 about it, we would like to organize a version 2 of this event. --------------------- This thread is to gather feedback on how to best organize, and to determine who is interested in participating. Here are the General Rules for participation (borrowed from v1):* You must be a participating member, in good standing. * The watch will be yours for two weekends MAX, show it a good time, and share pics in the event thread on WS * You must be able to perform a bracelet resize or strap change, or have it done for you by a reputable source. * You must be able and willing to package and post the watch responsibly - and pay shipping to the next host after your turn is up. * Within the USA, it must be shipped via USPS Priority w/tracking. Int'l, please use best method that is affordable. Here is THE WATCH for v2:inboost has graciously offered to be the first recipient, and to give it a proper servicing, install new crystal and gaskets. It is impossible to capture in a photo, but I believe the dial/bezel and hands are in perfect or near perfect condition under there. The case looks unpolished to me and retains it original sharp edges. So that would make inboost the watch's second destination, after a short first stint with me (in original condition). If you are interested in participating as a host of this watch, and meet the qualifications, please post here or PM me. If you have any thoughts or feedback on how this could/should be organized and/or ideas on what each "host" should do with the watch, please post here or PM me. Hosting parties

I'm super excited about this! I love a watch with a story so let's make this a good one all! I'll perform the service in an appropriate thread and link to it from this post when that happens. Then we can kick off the next leg of the journey.
dapellegrini i - maybe we should set up a roster post here at the beginning of the thread we can keep updated with location and status (like on parade or in transit)? Something like: Date
| Currently With | Location
| Situation
| Next Up
| 1/18/2023 | dapellegrini | Arizona, USA
| Waiting to launch
| inboost |

I did not manage to read even half of the mentioned original travel. ...but I really like the idea. It's a summarize of what I like about this forum. So sad that many pictures are gone or got 'photobucketed', but what's left is still amazing.
Count me in.

Sweet! More participants please! tempelkim - would you mind sharing your country (or state if in the US?) - sorry, I'm the new guy how doesn't know anything. I think we will try and order things by geo-political location as much as possible.

I don't want to complicate this project, but I was talking with dapellegrini last night and we had a few ideas to expand on the journey the watch will take.
Thought #1 :
Supply two world time watches, one digital one analog, such that you'd have a choice of which to show (or both!). Apparently dapellegrini has more than one world timer to share?
Thought #2 :
Everyone who receives the watch puts something small but unique to them / their location in the box before sending it on to the next person. This could be a pub napkin with the logo, a bottle cap of a local drink, or some other interesting trinket. That way when it all comes home there are a collection of bits to show with the watch to commemorate it's journey. You'd need to be careful not to put something in the box that made life difficult for the next person (no live chickens, fireworks, or bottle caps with drink still attached) and each person in line might have to be creative in repackaging especially as the bundle approaches it's final destination.
And speaking of pubs and recipients - I think one of the stops needs to be at a Redbar gathering! Paging Mr. russtmurray , paging Mr. russtmurray, can you host a few transients at your next meeting?
Thought #3:
dapellegrini just had a great idea, how about a notebook that travels with the watch? You can jot something down, paste or stick something in it, or skip. The payload size stays constant for the package this way and makes it easy to manage as the journey goes on.

Maybe just put some thing or things in the box for the next person to keep and show.
The more stuff you try and pack in a box the more likely for damage to occur and international customs issues.

Excellent - russtmurray - what country / state are you in? I will add to the list at the top! Also on the provenance of this watch... All I know is that it was from the estate of a Japanese family in Colorado. The rest is mystery, but I would not be shocked to learn this is a one owner watch that rattled around in a drawer for the last 30+ years. EDIT: inboost, I will include a small, leather backed travel notebook - and we can ask each person to add something to it along the way. Stickers, receipts, something to mark the passage through their town / country. Hopefully that keeps it simple while adding some extra personalization along the way.

Here's an idea for everyone regarding the notebook: go to your local post office, buy a postage stamp, stick it on a page, and have them cancel the stamp which should show the date and your city.
You can also go to surrounding area post offices and collect different cancellations like a passport.
And for anyone who wants to copy my idea it also works as a wedding gift idea if you get 2 bills cancelled on the wedding date: one for the groom and one for the bride.

While we are getting organized, I see no reason to not start the good times rolling. There will be a dedicated thread when we get going in earnest, and I may repost some of this... TBD. (or maybe just have another drink together) From my end, we now have most of the travel gear accumulated In celebration, we had a drink... well, ok, I had a drink, but in good company
