Just a little fun; hope I'm not stepping on any toes. tritto's scary-crusty Tissot (good work cleaning that up, BTW ) gave me an idea to bring here something I used to do on my car forums: Post a pic of the most disreputable-looking car you've ever driven watch you've ever worn. Voluntarily, not on a bet. I'll start, and set the bar pretty low: These are from my days working as a auto mechanic and as a appliance mechanic (lots of getting down on concrete warehouse floor) when I was younger and first hooked up with my wife, before I went back to Uni. So I actually bought these new or like new (prolly from a pawn shop) and wore them while working until they looked this way. The one on the left became a parts/link donor long ago; the one on the right still keeps good time, and I will sometimes wear it when doing yardwork or tinkering on the car. And as these both use a commodity Ronda (515/517 IIRC) movement made in Thailand, technically almost a Japanese watch...? mnem *ducks volley of soggy ol' boots thrown from the peanut gallery* "okay; I deserved that..."Attachments:

inboost has a VERY cool and legit shipwreck watch that he fixed and wears, that would likely fit the bill.

Well... I was going to go with this guy (Casio AX-250 DigiKing) as for a 'serviced' watch it still looks like it needs a service! Wait, is that a new scratch I see on it there?

If I could post photos....I would.
I got a 7002 diver from a customer (a known Rolex flipper). It was owned by a friend of his who did concrete work. It was covered in the stuff. I chipped off the concrete etc and overhauled it.
Some time later he bought it back saying it wasn't going well. It was covered in concrete again - I wouldn't have been able to get the back off. I told him it was because his friend was rough with it and I wouldn't be repeating the process above to put it right. I also told him I didn't want to do his work anymore and as he was starting to turn nasty I wanted him off my property. It was a bit of a risk as he's a physically big man (I'm 181 but slim/athletic) and he's into guns.
He got in a huff with me and tried to bad mouth me with other watchmakers in Auckland. When I talked to three of them when I saw them, they sided with me and thought it was wise I'd told him to sod off

If I could post photos....I would. It’s not hard to do using Tapatalk or Imgur. After all, how do you think the rest of us manage it?

I suspect he means because he didn't take pics and the watch is no longer in his possession; or perhaps that he adheres to a simple client confidentiality professional ethic. Either way, I expect he has legit reasons. mnem or perhaps it's because the inconvenienced electrons that make up the internet all spin backwards in Middle Earth, and he can't be arsed to turn them around one-by-one for every post.

Well, that's not the kind of disreputable I had in mind when I started the thread... but now that you mention it! *blerk* mnem Attachments:

Today I set up an account with JBorel; planning to order me a crystal for the Dolphin. But while I'm at it, I wanted to get some coming for my favorite Fossil tick-tocks, so I decided to dismantle the carcass from the OP here. I've never removed the bezel from one of these; usually all I do is repeatedly squirt a little IPA in the crack and turn the bezel with a rag until no crunky stuff weeps out, then squirt a bit of food-grade Silicone lubricant in it and wipe the outer surface with a towel damped in IPA. Once everything dries, usually silky smooth again until time for a new battery. I'm pretty sure this watch never got such TLC towards the end of its life, tho. The gap between case and bezel is very thin on this one; I had to start with a paring knife (I keep a few on my bench, including one with a deliberately blunt edge) then once it started to let go, I could get in there with an old pruning knife and finish popping it off. *spew and a half* mnem take yer best shot, tritto... I deserve it. Attachments:

A little scrubbity (deliberately with a hardened steel brush to renew the brushed finish) and wipe down with IPA revealed this watch does have a seal (looks like Delrin or maybe PTFE), so heating the case with the ol' paint stripper gun and pushing with my thumbs released the crystal. Looking at the pic, I think I see a spot where the ring lands in the bezel got a little deformed tho; I think they'll need some tap-tappity-tap to flatten again. Definitely mucho improvement for little assache. mnem now to go spend some money on JBorel's site...Attachments:

Canopus is one of the polestars; counterpoint to Sirius, it is the brightest star in the Southern sky. Allegedly named after the navigator on the Argos. mnem
