IMO, the smart watch is like quartz watches 50 years ago, but instead of throwing the rest of the mechanical watch world into an existential crisis, I think it is inspiring a new generation to consider a mechanical watch when they aren't wearing something to manage their movement/sleep etc. I also think Apple is top of the stack by a large margin.... just my $.02

The only smartish watch I'm prepared to wear is a Garmin when I'm mountain biking. Other than that, I have no interest at all (but that's hardly a surprise here).

I wonder why (and have read / watched YT videos on it) people feel they have to be electronically connected so much. I have a Leyzne and also a Garmin to mount on my stems when I'm road cycling and (usually) a Casio on my wrist at the time

Just look at the prices of iPhone 1.

One of the things I like about mechanical watches is that they can last a lifetime with care. Smart watches are designed to be obsolete in three-four years, if that. In ten years they'll be completely non-functional.

In ten years they'll be completely non-functional. Bad watchmaker is like an update from apple that will render your device non functional
