Up until now my work on watches has been restricted to cleaning up cases, replacing crystals, pusher seals, coils, etc. However this Seiko 5m43 kinteic had suffered some minor rust after water ingress. It's a comparatively straight forward movement so I decided to have a go and strip it completely. Am now at the stage of removing the rust and cleaning all the parts. I've never gone this far before and it's daunting but quite exciting. I haven't used oils before but watched lots of youtube video's so now's my chance. I have a new replacement movement as a cushion for my anxiety but I like a challenge. I know most on here could do this while blindfolded and one arm behind their back but it's a big step for me. Hey, it's only an old Seiko.

The worst rust affected part was this pusher leaver and the post it fitted to. As you can see the Evaporust has done a great job at removing the corrosion. Of course, it's left a pitted surface but hopefully it won't turn to rust again with new seals.

Good on you, and good luck! The first time you tear down a movement it's pretty daunting, but very rewarding when it all comes good at the end.
Trust me, this might be your first but it sure as hell won’t be your last!

Unfortunately I've got a weeks holiday in Gran Canaria with my wife coming up which will delay things. I've obviously got my priorities wrong!

Way to go grungent! I think you'll have a very meaningful outcome soon enough. Don't worry about the pitting, I've got quite a few with such surface pitting in various places and they're happy to be back in the game just the same. I'm looking forward to seeing the how this one goes for you, whenever time permits.
