Hi guys would anyone know where I could get a service manual for this watch ? Longines Conquest TI VHP L174.2 movement. I have got it running but it seems to be making a ratcheting sound when changing the time. It looks like some sort of cog is slipping and takes a long time to move the hands because of this slippage. Ironically changing the time anti clockwise is not to bad but clockwise terrible. Any ideas ? Thanks

Sounds like gunked pivots. Cleaning and oiling will most likely solve the issue. I would avoid turning hands untill you have sorted out the problem. Looks like the movement is ETA 255.561 (stamped on the main plate next to ETA logo) and you'll find the manual from here: www.cousinsuk.com/search?searchTerm=255.561

Thanks for the fast reply.
I haven't advance that far yet but I ready to give it ago.
Would all ETA movements of the same number but different brand of watch share common parts ?
Thanks

Yes. As long as it has the exact same caliber number.
Manual will show you the parts that are interchangeable between different calibers, if you happen to need spare parts.

Ok thanks. I have another one that has the metal clip that goes under the battery broken off. I cant see the ETA number on that though. Can it be buried underneath ? Do they all have and ETA number ? Thanks

They would have. On that example, it is most likely under the circuit board (also stamped on the mainplate).
That is a different movement by the way (see the coil shape, crystal tube locations, Longines ref. etc.).

Yes. I realize that just learning as I go. I'm doing to practice on the dead one but accidently scratched the face using the cheapo hand removers even with plastic but hey its part of being the apprentice

You can lay a piece of thick plastic on top of the hands and the couge them out with levers. Minigrip bags which often come with spare parts are very good, as I have learned from a fellow WIS leffemonster
