Hi longbike, this looks a fun one to watch. Just to clarify - is this only Seiko 6309-7040 or is this for the very first Seiko dive watch someone got?

I bought this new in 1981 on returning to Aberdeen from a North Sea semi. Still ticking and last serviced by my hand in 2020. Oooppps, sorry I misread the 6309....but it's got a similar case.

My first 6309-7049 which I serviced and still own But I've only had it since June of 2022, so not as special as some of these long-held beauties!

It has taken a few kickings over the last nearly 20 years, but still looks good and so glad i still have it. Next came the 6105 and the diver bug stung me ever since.

I had one or two divers as a kid. Pretty small IIRC and long gone. Once I got the collector bug, I bought this one from Spencer. That was many years ago and still runs like a champ. Since then, I've added a few more modern divers. I'm not afraid to swim with them and they still glow at night.

Not a Seiko, but this one was my first 'proper' dive watch (2007) It's been as low as 100 feet down beneath the waves and as high up the mountain as 19340 feet. Still going strong Rob

Here's the first dive watch I ever owned and still have it. I bought it not long after I got certified in 1977 and as much as I coveted the Seiko divers back then, I couldn't afford one. The cool thing was the packaging because the watch was cased in pill box sized container filled with water!

I figure the instructions for this thread are vague enough that I can freelance it. So I offer these three divers, plus a maybe diver. All firsts for me:
This is my first 6309 - special to me because it's an acknowledgement of my superior skills at, well, guessing the number of cars in a parking lot based on a deliberately bad photo.
This is my first proper dive watch, given to me by my wife 25 or so years ago. Loads of honest scrapes and dings as a result of scrabbling in holes in rock walls after lobster.
This is the first Seiko (diver) that I bought new.
This is my first vintage Seiko watch that I bought - I think it could have been used for skin diving back when it was new. I liked the shape and the green bezel, but the overall pics were pretty shitty. Supposedly running, but arrived a non-runner, but too much work to return. Turns out this particular watch kicked around multiple forums and owners over the years, earning the nickname "ugliest Seiko". I'm holding onto it with the intention to eventually restore it to running order and keep it as an amusing reminder of my first foray into vintage Seiko.

Interesting thread which brought back a lot of memories! The Swatch was my first proper watch my parents got for me when I was 14 in 2000 on our vacation in Europe. The actual piece that I had is long gone and I was ecstatic to track down the exact same model with bracelet a few months ago. Got it in my forever box now. The Tissot is what I got when I passed the first of the two national level school exams that's compulsory in my country in 2003. I have the bracelet for it but put it on a NATO just because... I passed the second national school exams and got into a premier law school simultaneously for which I got a cherry red SUV, no watch 😆 The 1963 was my first mechanical watch which I got during the lockdown in 2020. Those two years will forever be etched in our memories and for me I got deep into mechanical watches and their restoration. The road eventually led to Seikos and now here I am with all you nutters having too many to count!
