Chance to interview a dial designer

I might have a chance to interview a Japanese guy, who solely designs watch dials. I have heared that he lives here in Finland and my Japanese friend said she might be able to hook me up with the guy.

I was thinking that I could ask from him if it would be possible to post an interview with him in here.

My question to all of you is, what things you would like to ask/know/hear, from some one who designs watch dials?

I think I would be more focused on questions about dial manufacturing myself than design if I wanted to ask questions. I expect this person isn't the right one to ask, but certainly there must be some boundaries of what is and is not feasible in design.

I am very interested to hear about lume design, as it must be a complicated subject. How to get the 'look' of something to be good both in light and dark is probably a challenge!

- Does the manufacturing process limit your designs and if so, which parts of the process in particular? (similar to yours inboost)
- What constitutes a good dial in your opinion?
- Do you have any particular favourites when it comes to dials (from any era)?
- Main steps and their order in dial manufacturing (if he happens to know about the process)?
- Does the dial design involve hand design?

Dates or no dates? Date window design can have a disproportionate impact on watch nerd perception of dial/watch. How do you approach date window design? Do you prefer not to have one, or do you embrace the challenge?

Great opportunity! As a newbie I'd be interested in:

What colours he likes to work with?
Favourite language for day display?
Favourite 'mainstream' watchmakee, and why?
If he was hired by that watchmaker, and given an unlimited budget, what would he create?
He's 'head of design' at his favourite watchmaker; which decade/era would he want to be working in?
What is his daily beater?
How many watches does he own?
How desirable will analogue watches be to a new generation raised on touch screens and smart watches?
Would also be really interested in the commercial process and pressures of bringing an idea to market and making a viable business from it
