I was fooling around with a Maratac G10, trying to get an idea how it would look with the shorter retaining strap out of the picture but not ready/desiring to cut it off. This is preparatory to determining dimensions for a custom shell cordovan strap for this watch (1 piece with G10 hardware, check out www.roverhaven.com/ for inspiration). I have had a long time love/hate with G10 straps. Generally the more comfortable ones (Timefactors comes to mind) are too short for a proper fold back and instead have to be a fold under. The only consistently long enough ones (Maratac) have head spacing that is a little too little and so the 6:00 hardware is too close to the lugs. On a whim I mounted the watch with the short section of the strap out of the way, coming around my wrist from 12:00. As you can see the bottom ring snugs up nicely under the buckle and the watch head sits nice and snug. This bit of invention cures the single largest complaint I have about all G10 straps - there is no longer any sliding around my wrist but I don't have to cinch it up like a tourniquet to keep it in place.
