I know there have been many threads regarding this topic, but I was hoping to put one together here. I'd like to know exactly what to look for, when trying to spot AM hands for the 6309-704x divers. Sharpness of the edges, width of lume? Side by side pics would be outstanding, can anyone provide that here?

The new AM flat hands out of the Philippines are really hard to spot. The biggest difference that I can see is that the lume itself is much much finer on the AM hands. Original Seiko lume of this period has a salty, grainy look under magnification, even slight magnification. The new lume is very flat and fine. The hands themselves look great, but only the hour & minute hands. The sweep hands still look terrible with rounded tops, and the width of the metal is too narrow around the lume at the tip.

Side by side pics would definitely be nice as I have a hell of a time myself trying to determine if hands are OEM or AM

This is the "grainy" look of OEM hands, but it's typically impossible to tell on sellers pics.

I look at the grain of the lume and the sweep hand. That big flat-topped circle, that's real. The AM's all get that wrong AFAIK. I'll get some side-by-side shots here but I'm neck deep in a rebuild.

I look at the minute hand as pretty much all the aftermarket ones have sharp points either side of the arrowhead, genuine ones are slightly rounded, but confusingly it may be that earlier hands had pointy corners so I then have to check the lume, but as has been mentioned this is bloomin hard to judge from an ebay photo, the aftermarket ones are getting better as far as the seconds hand is concerned, still not quite right though, seikola

Wow, I wonder if he took those photos with his sister's camera? He sure has come a long way since then. Perhaps there's hope for me yet...never stop learning....hell I'm inclined to crack open my old calculus text book and reacquaint myself with that "new" math!

It's getting pretty hard to tell AM hands apart .. Thanks for sharing the photos, Spencer.

Just curious. Has anyone tried out Yokobies offerings? I'm not too concerned about the "pointieness" per se, but it's the lume colour I'm wondering about. I need to replace the hands on of my 6309's because they have a green hue to them. Although I'd prefer a slightly aged OEM pair, something in just plain 'ol white would do.

Three shots, hopefully they're instructive. Not very good - best I could do with an iPhone and a loupe. OEM hor hand on the left. OEM minute hand on the right. OEM seconds hand on the left. Right..er..correct?

Take into consideration the fitment of AM hands, They aren't always good...Like the AM crowns, Dials etc...
