My watch collecting illness obsession started when I inherited a J W Benson automatic watch from my wife's great Uncle. Then I found a dinky hand-winding Benson movement and miraculously a case to put it in. Then last week I spotted a stainless steel Benson on E-bay, which I won for maybe more than I should (or really wanted to) have paid. I knew it had a scratched crystal but the seller claimed it kept good time, so I went for it. When it arrived I wound it up (it has hand wind) and was a bit concerned when it lost 5 minutes in the first hour. Thinking I would have to send it back, I reset it at 12pm and wore it while I unloaded a couple of tons of coal (plenty of wrist action !). At 5pm, it had lost 2 seconds and by 9pm only 7. Phew ! I polished the crystal and despite one of the scratches actually unfortunately being a crack, it doesn't look too bad. Here are the three together.

The latest one looks great, even with a tiny hairline crack :-) Keep wearing it and the old oils will likely reliquify enough to let it run reasonably accurately

I especially like the 2nd one. Yes finding that case was a miracle.
Well played sir.
