Some of you might remember when I scored THIS the other day. The movement was shot as the old battery leaked and ruined it completely. Read more about choosing and right battery for your quartz watches HERE. The dial, hands and shroud are in great condition. The bezel insert is a little rough, but at the price I paid I can't complain. I was able to score a movement for it in great working condition so today a got to work. Before pic. The first thing I did was remove the band then the shroud. Then the bezel, and the movement. Then the pushers, crystal and insert came out. The parts are then gathered and put to boil in a nice hot ultrasonic bath. The next step was to swap out the movement. After that the now clean parts are taken out and steam cleaned and gathered for reassembly. The new crystal is installed, pushers as well and movement installed. The last step is to install the bezel and insert then the shroud. Then the finished product. More pics to follow when i give her the official photo shoot. Thanks for looking.

Looks great, but to be completely honest the gold display instead of the silver would bother me to no end...funny thing is that I actually usually prefer it, on Pan Am, 0439, A158...but I swapped a silver for gold once and just couldn't get used to it.

Nice.
I think the gold display compliments the orange Sports 150 text at 6 o'clock.

Rob. It would bug me, too. The last H601-5480 I bought was also a non-runner. The digital display had bled. It took the better part of a year to find another 100% module for it that wasn't super expensive and had the silver display. IIRC, mine came out of ratty dress watch with a silvertone plated case. I found lots of gold ones...even bought a few. The only difference is the color of the reflector behind the LCD display...all other parts are the same. In the end, I am glad I waited for the "right" one, but I can see why you went with the gold. Looks good to me!

Finally i see one being restored. I've been searching for an H601 restoration work for the past couple of days but all I see are the H558s. Nice work sir! Hope i could dismantle mine but i read the shrouds on these are easy to break because of age so all i manange to do is take the wave vented straps off which took me about an hour (dang fat spring bars) and installed temporary 20mm cheap nato on it. Digital display is kinda weak but i did hear the alarm sound off earlier. Weak battery have something to do with this? Attachments:

Nice job! This thing was my first grail, when I first got into watches, thought the SKX007/9 were the coolest looking things on the planet but still hated the idea of a mechanical watch. I'm not quite as into them now (especially not at current prices!), but they are still great looking.
This post is reminding me that I think I have a fairly good A158's worth of parts that I should put together sometime...

Really awesome post. I love seeing the watch all broken down and what goes into repairing and restoring it. I love watches but am a total idiot when it comes to what makes them work. Very informative site and folks, glad to have found this place.

Another one that 'walked' in the door Chris  Seriously though, that's a very nice job. I did notice that you don't appear to have any hammers in your tool drawer......I do........maybe that's where I'm going wrong
